LePage beats Collins in the primary and Collins mounts a write-in bid, similar to Murkowski in 2010. Who would win?

If Collins wasn't politically astute enough to foresee McConnell stabbing her in the back this past week with the tax bill, she won't be astute enough to get elected as an independent, write-in candidate. Her support for the tax bill could also devastate her politically in Maine, and so I think Pingree would win, maybe even with a majority.

Collins collapses in the polls, as LePage consolidates the Republican vote. However, she drains enough votes from Lepage to allow Pingree to win with 48% of the vote to LePage's 45% and Collins's 7%.

something like this wouldn't work for the GOP in a state like Maine, where Dems regularly get 45% or more. In Alaska it was safer to do so, as Dems there only get like 20% or less. Pingree wins.
