After a hard fought primary, Democrats nominate Tammy Baldwin. She selects Doug Jones as her running mate.

President Trump and Vice-President Pence are running for re-election.

Who wins (with maps)?

I’m not sure if America is ready to elect its first LGBTQ+ president yet.

I feel a white female lesbian would have an easier time than a gay white male or a gay man of color. However, as a gay man, there's still a lot of homophobia and anti-LGBTQ sentiment in this country, whether it be religious (god doesn't say it's right) or just plain secular hatred (be normal, don't make a fuss, why not straight pride?etc).

Still, I'd cry happy tears for Tammy even if she is a comformist white woman lesbian.

Tammy Baldwin is maybe my favorite Congressperson, but this. However, I think the current political climate and Jones as a running mate would still give her >50% chances of winning.

You know, everyone said the same thing about Obama in 2008, and he got elected....

Something like this. Flip Georgia and North Carolina if Jones isn't her running mate.

Agree. It would only be a big problem for her in the states she wouldn't win anyways.

His parents’s marriage became federally legal roughly fifty years before he became President. Baldwin’s marriage became federally legal within the past five years.

Regardless, public opinion on LGBT people and LGBT rights have shifted drastically to the left in just the past 10-15 years.

95% approve of Black rights, and only 64% of gay marriage

Look back just 10 years though, when it was at 36/55 for same sex marriage

Even though I think it would be hard for her, a lesbian would perform better than a gay man.

Plus I don't think by October 2008 anyone doubted Obama would be our next president considering that fact he was leading in every poll and his opposition was so God awful.

No, but they most certainly were saying it in the primary against Hillary...

The difference is a negligible number of Americans, if that, consider having black skin to be a sin and/or a perversion...

At least you still didn’t imply that Baldwin would try to make people be gay.

Honestly, that would make me more likely to vote for her.

Can we stop pretending that literally anyone who'd not vote for Baldwin because she's Lesbian would vote for a regular Democrat? At most, she'd lose a few thousand white old folks. Not more than that. Even what she loses would probably be outdone by increased lgbtq turnout.
