By the way, a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who donated to, made calls for, or campiagned for Jones. And of course everyone who came out to vote for him, underhanded voter suppression tactics be damned.

Erick Erickson, Guy Benson, Stephen Miller and their crew on Twitter are trying to spin this as a Republican win because (paraphrasing): "Jones will only serve one term in a deadlocked Congress. Republicans dodged a bullet." It amazes me than anyone can think of this as anything other than a win for Democrats and Jones. With Jones in the Senate, Republicans can only risk losing one vote from their caucus, this eases the fight to win back the Senate in 2018 for Democrats, and it emboldens the grassroots and  will inspire more candidates to run all over.

To be fair, they may have dodged a bullet in the long run, because they won't have Moore hanging around their necks. Still a huge victory overall for Democrats, makes things much tougher for congressional GOP policy wise.

Also, you should probably reference which Stephen Miller you're talking about in case anyone gets confused.

Remember when Robert Kennedy was winning the primary race by 20 points?

Indeed, a Kennedy v Moore race would have been really interesting.
Kennedy probably would have lost. I doubt he would have ran a masterful campaign like Jones did.

Indeed, he was supposedly a conservative Democrat though.  So for those who acted like Jones' positions on abortion or general liberal stances meant he had no chance, Kennedy would have theoretically been a better fit.  He could have also done well with black turnout.  I think Kennedy's biggest flaw would have been a lack of party support though.

I'm very happy it was Jones who won both the primary and the general though.

I thought about that, but Kennedy was also advertising himself as pro-life. And again, Jones' campaign did basically everything right. I doubt Kennedy could have done that.

Jones was clearly the better choice.

We just got the most important Demographic breakdown from FOX:

Alabama fans: Moore +6
Auburn fans: Jones +2
Non-football fans: Jones +30

I am officially rooting for Auburn every Iron Bowl. Especially b/c Lee County swung so hard to Jones.

What percentage of voters are non-football fans? Isn't that about like polling Jewish voters in Alabama?

I got the full question (FOX is now doing an alternative to traditional exit polling, so its numbers are sometimes different from the exit poll- the most notable was that it suggested a somewhat bigger age gap than the exit polls did):

Alabama fans (47%): Moore 52-46
Auburn fans (19%): Jones 50-48
Fans of both (12%): Moore 52-47
Fans of neither (21%): Jones 60-39

You know, I thought Roy Moore was the most disgusting thing in Alabama. But 12% are fans of BOTH?!?!?!

Disappointed moore lost but now icespear maybe will finally shut up.

The reports going around are saying Moore is waiting on military ballots any idea how many there are?

Not nearly enough. Moore is engaging in wishful thinking.

During the certification process Moor will find an 11,000 transposition mistake in Jefferson county that will put him ahead.

That does seem to be how the AL GOP swings elections...

But I'm not sure they'll do it for Moore.

Republicans:

->Scream voter fraud when they lose

->Impose incredibly restrictive, suppressing voter ID laws which they claim will fix voter fraud

->Lose anyway

->Scream voter fraud when they lose

I think I look at the wikipedia entry for Doug Jones twice a day and smile.

I still have the tab with the NYT results page open on my browser. I occasionally scroll down to the projected margin chart.

Me as well to both the two above quotes.

"Blank" got 9 votes (does this mean 9 people wrote in the word, or that 9 people left a blank ballot)
"a competent conservative: got 1 vote
"Neither" got 1 vote
Ronald Reagan got 1 vote
Bugs Bunny got 1 vote
Buddy the Elf got 1 vote
Red Squirrel got 1 vote
"Overvote" got 1 vote (does this mean someone wrote in the word, or that it is an actual overvote)
This Competent Conservative fellow sounds interesting.

But is he a stronger candidate than Generic Republican?
Yeah, there are some rumors about Generic Republicans' shady past, I won't post them here because they're extremely salacious, but even if these aren't proven, I think Competent Conservative is the stronger candidate here.

Very likely true, but unfortunately Competent Conservative has retired from politics.

You guys are so blind to what I am saying. Doug Jones only won because Roy Moore is a child rapist. If another candidate was on the ballot he would have lost badly. This race had nothing to do with people not liking republicans and wanting change or whatever. It was all about Roy Moore and his actions.

But...if this race was in 2014 instead, Moore would probably win by at least 10 points (with allegations and all).
