I argue yes. Not only did Moore turn out to be a pedophile, he sleepwalked through the first half of the general election and let Jones completely dominate him on the airwaves, which I think was just as fatal a blow to the Moore campaign as the allegations.

He still only lost by 1.5%, so I wouldn't say that. He's one of the worst people to be a candidate, yes, but I think someone like Ted Strickland ran an even worse campaign.

Oh come ON. Roll Eyes Strickland who got blown away because he ran against a popular "moderate" incumbent in the height of Trumpist backlash in Ohio at the age of 74 is a worse candidate than the freaking pedophile who lost Alabama for the Republicans?

I think his decision to sit out the last week of the campaign cost him. He was in Pennsylvania this past weekend while Doug Jones was hitting as many events and campaign headquarters across the state as possible. Had Moore been campaigning, he MIGHT have been able to make up the 20,000 votes that separated him from Jones.

I mean, I would like to think that those who argued for slavery and segregation were the worst morally (he kinda came close there, though).

In the modern era, though, yes.

In recent history, yes. A pedophile who barely campaigned/barely ran any ads and lost in Alabama of all places...how exactly could Strickland, Murphy, or Braley top that?

He's obviously got a following, so he's doing something right. There are some people who can't achieve that.

Refusing to debate Jones didn't help either.

It was definitely one of the worst Senate campaigns in history. Sure, the Democrats have people like Rob Quist, Evan Bayh, Bob Kerrey, Ted Strickland, etc., but they'd never actually lose a Senate race in a D+14 state. Republicans lose Senate races in pretty Republican states on a regular basis, which is just sad.

William Jefferson in 2008 is the worst congressional candidate this century.

Strickland would have won in Alabama if he'd ran as a Republican.

Moore is definitely top tier trash. Maybe not the worst in history, but he's definitely one of the worst.

If we are going based on their losses, I think John Ashcroft earns some honorary mention.

William Jefferson in 2008 is the worst congressional candidate this century.

He was the Democrat incumbent who lost in a massive D PVI district in a D wave.

In fairness to Patrick Murphy he appeared to be relatively ready for a Senate race against anyone other than Rubio; he just got swamped by Rubio's campaign/much better name ID and the fact that Florida was always close.

People like Strickland/Bayh etc were bad candidates running in the wrong year, but they didn't run bad campaigns from what I saw. However Moore was both an awful candidate, who already repelled a lot of voters, and then proceeded to not campaign at all.

I really wonder if he actually campaigned, whether it would have made a difference at all.

At least  Duke (probably) isn't a child molester, because other than that he's far worse than Moore.
