Basically, the logic here is to reward Mike Pence for his years of loyalty to Trump (assuming that he'll remain in office until 2020, that is) by allowing him to be U.S. President for a short period of time and thus get his own presidential library.

Also, for what it's worth, I voted No. Basically, I don't think that Trump would be daring enough to do this--though I certainly wouldn't completely rule it out if someone actually gives him this idea. After all, Trump appears to enjoy messing with the system.

As I said, to reward Pence for his loyalty to him and to give Pence his own presidential library.

No, President Trump would never preemptively give up the position of President because of a likely loss. He wants to be in the spotlight for as long as possible. Also, given recently reported accounts, President Trump does not hold VP Pence in very high esteem and would feel no incentive to give him the job.

No I seriously doubt he will leave as President on his own accord before either his second term expires or his first term expires and he looses reelection.

Trump has no loyalty to anyone

It wouldn't surprise me if he takes the oval office desk with him along with other White House artifacts

What kind of library does a president get who served in a lame duck period between his predecessor losing reelection and the winner being sworn in?

He would have no accomplishments to speak of. No one would agree to donate money to this hypothetical library.

It would be really weird and incredibly stupid.

Again, why? He wouldn't forfeit the job. He's too narcissistic for that.

If one wants to be fair, though, such a move would give Trump a lot of attention.

Also, in spite of Pence's unimportance within the Trump administration, you have to give him credit for remaining loyal to Trump.

Losing the job for a day or two isn't a big deal, though.

None, of course.

Please keep in mind that his presidential library can cover his pre-presidential life. Indeed, this is what would have probably happened with Reagan's presidential library had Hinckley's bullet actually killed Reagan.

Also, wouldn't the government pay for this library if private donors are unwilling to pay up?

You are talking about a U.S. president who already broke almost all of the rules during his 2016 campaign, though. Indeed, Trump's presidency and the direction of his campaign would have been utterly unimaginable even at the start of 2015!

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. Please provide some examples of Trump personally giving up something of personal significance to reward someone's loyalty. (Commemorative gilded brass daggers planted in backs DO NOT COUNT.)

More likely, if Trump knows he's going to lose, he'll just declare that he's Made America Great Again, his work is done, and not run for reelection.

Or he'll cancel the 2020 elections, and demand Congress declare him President for life. One of those two.

Giving up just one or two days of his presidency isn't much of a sacrifice, though.

That's certainly possible.

Also, in such a scenario, do you think that Mike Pence will be the 2020 GOP presidential nominee?

Wait, this is just the Biden joke all over again.

You know, let Biden take office on January 18, so all Trump's "45th president" branding has to be redone.
