Somebody is going to get blamed for this.

Democrats and Republicans are going to go at each other. But people have died so somebody has to be blamed.

Well no surprise i am blaming the Republicans.

Mary Landrieu and John Bereuax have been campaigning since 1997 for coastal relief federal funds and they have been denied time and time again.

In 2002, Landrieu and Terrell were asked in the debate what is the biggest security concern to the people of Louisiana. Terrell said Terrorism. Landrieu said flooding. Who was right?

Two months before the 2004 election hurricane relief effort was there for florida but no election no relief we now have dead people.

Republicans came back from holiday to get a terri schiavo bill passed it took 5 days to get such a bill passed for the gulf coast.

Republican commentators moaned about giving tax payers money to the coast on tuesday. how quickly they dropped that point after recognising the damage.

I wonder what Rick Santorum thinks about this matter. when he said about Terri Schavo..

'the killing of terri schiavo is a brutal execution.'

So what is this Rick?

We invaded Iraq to make sure the terrorists didn't come here says Bush.

Well why does New Orleans look like a flooded baghdad where looters are holding people to ransom.

Natural disasters are not man made. Granted the flooding is partially due to man made problems, but deaths can just as much be blamed on the local governments as they can the federal.

This thread will be ugly. I'll leave it alone.

i'm armed and ready. so if republicans want to criticise democrats then watch out.

Landrieu said on wednesdays LAarry King
'i'm a senator who doesn't point the finger while people continue to die. Once we get people safe we will then talk about what we could have done. I promise you though Larry that i did everything that i could to stop this from happening'

Talk radio and Fox news will blame the democrats. but the republicans deep down know from the past that they reacted quicker when the base wanted something (terri schiavo) and the republcians donar (war in iraq)

if an election was 2 months away would the federal governments response be the same as what we have seen?

Based on the reaction I've read in the papers and on the internet and the callers and hosts on talk radio, I'd say most are blaming the federal government (the Bush administration).

Does everything have to be a partisan attack with you? I said this in a different thread - the federal government is often slow to react due to the fact that it is a huge frickin beauracracy. Even if it was faster, I'd seriously doubt it would be enough to satisfy you, sheesh.

The republicans are so organised that us democrats have to fight for ourselves.

We have no representation. So what do you expect us democrats to do?

Both the LA Governor and the NO Mayor are Democrats.  Neither has gone to NOLA.  It will be a sad thing if Bush beats them to it.

Or: That Bush implements the harsh justice to keep law and order there just long enough to transport the 30,000 in the Superdome, and the rest trapped under 20 feet of water everywhere else, along the one highway out the place.

Then, as sure as the Sun rising in the east, the race baiters (where are they, anyhow?) Jackson and Sharpton will blame Bush for "killing Black people trapped in a swamp." And Nagin and Blanco will simply egg them on.

But we can see this clearly: Louisiana has no responsible government. And now it is up to President Bush to establish law there.

* Correction: Jackson is in NOLA to help transport people out of the Xavier University area. I guess he is using the "Start from the top, then work your way down" approach

If rick thinks terri schiavo is a brutal execution what does he think about this? he thought terri schiavo was more important considerring his response. he was in florida within 4 days. we haven't had the president come after 4 days. and now he comes today.

Rick Santorum applauds Katrina's actions.

In all seriousness, moron, I am signed up for emails from the Santorum for Senate campaign and got one today concerning donations to the Red Cross.

Here is the text of the email for MissCatholic:

Dear Philip,

By now, most of you are aware of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. You may even have relatives who were touched by this vicious storm.

During this time, it's important we think of our neighbors in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Florida and offer whatever support we can. Please consider contributing to the American Red Cross to help those unfortunate enough to be touched by this storm recover.

www.RedCross.org

Thank you,

Rick Santorum

I agree with this.  There's plenty of blame to be spread around.

However, I'm really not sure any official understood the magnitude of this situation immediately.  This was, in essence, a double disaster:  a hurricane Monday followed by a flood on Tuesday.  Double disasters are extremely hard to handle, and fortunately for the rest of us, fairly rare.

So, anyway, I'm willing to be more lenient than I normally might be.

The Coast Guard has been positively amazing in this.  As usual, they do their job, do it exceptionally well, and get little recognition in return.

Neither, because the other party will look terrible if they say anything about it. I'd advise you not to try, because it is not considered right to make political points off of people dying.

What the fark does Rick Sanatorium have to do with any of this?

I mean arguing about failures among those who's job it is to deal with this (FEMA, the department of homeland security, Gov. Blanko, Pres "the buck doesn't even pause here" Bush), but Sanatorium is about as relevant to this as Barbara Boxer or John McCain.  And as far as I know, they dutifly showed up in Washington to approve emergency funds for relief efforts.

Republicans.  This summer is like 1979-1980 all over again.  People feel like everything is falling apart.
