How hard would it be for Trump to try and dissolve Congress?  He would like to and so would his supporters.

Really seems fitting that Trump would end the year with another failure and political loss.

This is actually the Democrats' fault because they knew they couldn't compete with Trump's amazing negotiating skills, so they decided to bow out and shut down the government instead. Sad!

Failure is the name of the game for the contemporary Republican party.

Winning!

I doubt the president passive aggressively ropes off open public monuments like a dick this time though. Its hilarious how the script last time around was that the GOP MUST cave to the Dems because they controlled 2 out 3 pieces of government and the Democrats therefore represented the will of the people. If the shutdown happens im looking forward to some epic flip flips.

It would be the end of the GOP majority in both chambers.

GOP controls literally every branch of government, yet they will find a way to blame the other side.

During a Democratic presidency and heading towards a midterm, you know, those usually go against the president's party.

The previous government shutdowns have all come under divided government.  If it happens under unified control, it will be obvious which party owns it.  Most voters are smart enough to see that; those who won't are the unshakable core.

The point was on its own it guarantees nothing. If the GOP lost both chambers it would be due to the pendulum swinging the other way and Trump's poor approval rating, not them shutting down the government.

The previous government shutdowns have all come under divided government.  If it happens under unified control, it will be obvious which party owns it.  Most voters are smart enough to see that; those who won't are the unshakable core.

The unshakable core is bigger than most people here think though.

Also, polls showed at the time that voters unambiguously blamed the Republicans. It didn't matter because newer shiny objects grabbed their attention within a few weeks, much less months or a year. The voters have the attention span of a mentally retarded goldfish. Until Atlas understands this, they will continue to be perplexed by election results. It's hard for politics junkies like us to comprehend, but the most recent major news cycle being positive or negative for a particular candidate can easily swing a competitive race. For instance, reverse the timing of Comey's letter and the Access Hollywood tape and Hillary wins easily. The government shutdown in 2013 was already irrelevant by the time the Obamacare site malfunctioned weeks later, much less the Ebola hysteria in late 2014. There are countless more examples.

But the counter point is Trump is the one in charge not a dem so their is little chance of a shiny object distracting that will benefit the GOP

Agreed, but in that case it would just be a generic anti-Trump/anti most recent Trump controversy vote. I highly doubt anyone's vote would be decisively based around the government shutdown from a year ago.

Another example: Virginia Dems probably significantly outperformed the polls thanks to Mueller's perfectly timed indictments.

They’ll probably get something done in the last minute. But yeah if they didn’t it would be pretty pathetic.
