If North America balkanized today into these Nine Nations:

Which do you live in currently, and if you had to relocate, which would you choose to relocate to?

I live in Dixie currently, if I had to relocate on this map, I'd go to the breadbasket, Nebraska probably.

I can't tell, but probably in the Breadbasket region (on the border with Dixie). I might want to move to New England.

Apparently the water-squandering, car-dominated, AC-blasting, sprawling mess of a city I live in is part of "Ecotopia"... Roll Eyes

I'm in New England.  If I had to relocate, it would be to Dixie or The Islands.  Smiley

Mexamerica, originally from Ecopia. Wouldn't want to move, but if I did, it would be to The Islands, The Empty Quarter, back to Ecopia or maybe to The Foundry. This map is stupid though.

I had to chuckle at poor Alberta being labelled as part of the empty quarter. I am guessing this map is a few decades old , as Alberta has been growing much faster than the rest of Canada. I am in the Foundry.

I'm currently in Ecotopia, but based on the name alone it doesn't really sound like somewhere I'd want to live, so I'd choose the Empty Quarter since I like the west but am not a gigantic environmentalist.

LA is in MexAmerica. In fact it's the capital of MexAmerica according to the original book by Garreau. Santa Barbara was the line between the two when he wrote it in 1981. This is my reconstruction of the boundaries of MexAmerica at the county level based on his text. The division of the "nation" into "states" is mine.

nb. Houston was a border city by Garreau's standards in 1981, part MexAmerica and part Dixie and he put the line right down the Houston Ship Channel. I kept its metro area together as a "state" and mapped it with MexAmerica in light of the 30 years of demographic changes between 1981 and 2011.
