In a stampede in Iraq, after a rumour spread that there were suicide bombers in the shiite pilgrim crowd, and then a bridge collapsed.
Holy cow.

I just thought about what the stampede was about: people heard about a suicide bomber, and didn't want to die.

Uh, I don't think your reactions worked very well, guys.

Awful.

How much there have been about this one in American media? Obviously the destruction of New Orleans is cover-story and this one has been left without big attention.

This has had some play, about 10 mintues per hour for a while yesterday.  NO is obviously getting the lion's share.

900 odd people killed?  Oh well, as long as it's not people anybody would miss.

One ticket please.

Oh, I heard about this, but my Internet access has been atrocious this week. I wonder if this will make the Shi'a enraged at the Sunnis - the Shi'a have shown remarkable restraint so far, but if the Shi'a decide they've had it, the Sunnis are going to get slaughtered...and as much as I hate to say it, the Sunnis will probably deserve it.

Did Saddam allow these disgusting 'religious processions' to take place?  Surely not.

I've been pretty busy lately, and as such, I haven't been keeping up with news a whole lot.

No, he did not. WHich is of course part of the reason why so many people attend now. First chance to do this in ages.

I miss Saddam.  He fought the good fight against religion.
