No surprise.....they'll re-try him because they can afford to.

Re-try him.

Seriously, Menendez should be ashamed of himself. I disagree with him on some issues, but he should consider retiring in 2018.

Jay Webber (R-Morris) would be good for this seat.

Lol, the jury was much closer to acquittal.

The Feds have a 98% conviction rate. (Yes, Badger, I know this figure is somewhat misleading) Unless you're rich and powerful, apparently.

With 10 favoring acquittal, they might pause a bit.

Yeah, I think we'll just have to accept this is the best we'll get and let the Democrats push him out in 2018.

Mendenez should at least not run again. Better is resigning, but AFTER Phil Murphy is sworn in as governor.

I think these are trumped-up charges and Menendez deserves an acquittal. That does not change the fact that Menendez is a scumbag and should go away already.

Why not just get rid of both?

If I were king, I'd order the charges be dropped in return for Menendez immediately resigning.

We don't have kings, but that would be a fair verdict.

I think Menendez probably won't run for reelection in the end anyway, and may resign this winter. The main reason he has held out on resigning is to make sure Murphy is the governor when he leaves office (and he may be allowed to help pick his successor).

That would be ideal! But I would prefer Menendez not be in the Senate even if he were 100% innocent, he's still a bad senator.

Would have been tricky if Menendez had been convicted and Senate Republicans proposed expulsion. Now he can run out the clock till January and resign if there are fresh allegations or a conviction in a subsequent trial

Menendez is a stain on the Democratic party of New Jersey. He needs to be removed imminently.

Ugh, we needed him out, so that Christie could appoint a replacement since Doug Jones is going to make Democrats+Collins and Murkowski the Senate's ruling coalition.

I will now accept my accolades...

So if anybody is following this, I'm leaning towards Menendez getting off. So far the prosecution has not shown a clear case of bribery. Im predicting, at worst, a hung jury. Then the government will try to re-prosecute and we can do this all over again.
