...after he barred lesbian from seeing her children unsupervised.

"Roy Moore, the Republican nominee for Senate in Alabama, ruled in a 1990s divorce case that a woman who had a lesbian affair couldn't visit her children unsupervised or with her partner, writing that the "minor children will be detrimentally affected by the present lifestyle" of the mother." - CNN

This guy is the very type of theocrat the Founders specifically warned us about. He will probably write a bill pushing religious police. Mooreism #1858892085.

Was this before or after he committed statutory rape?

After. The SA/rape incidents were in 70s and 80s. This happened in 1996.

He also equated homosexuality with murder:

What a charming individual. He'll represent Alabama well for decades.

Alabama's gift to the US: the new George Wallace.

Wallace, at least, repudiated his racist views late in life (sincerely, I believe).

Yeah, I doubt we'll be getting the same epiphany from Moore.

Wallace publicly disavowed segregation in his 50s and became a rather beloved figure among Alabama blacks by his 60s. Roy Moore is 70.

Why would Moore even agree to do a divorce case? It blatantly contradicts his theological views.

Also, even when he was a segregationist, he was still far more reasonable than Moore on basically every other issue.

I doubt our Founding Fathers had views about homosexuality much different from Moore.

Most of our Founding Fathers were cool with slavery as well, so what are you suggesting here?

The difference is that was the 1780s, when those views were the norm. Today, those views are seen as extreme.

As far as I know, the only Founding Father on the record about same-sex penalties was Jefferson, who tried (and failed) to get the penalty for sodomy in the state of Virginia lowered from execution to castration.

I said what I did because the original post said that Roy Moore is the kind of theocrat that our Founding Fathers warned us about.

Didn't Jefferson try to convince the state of Virginia to make it so that homosexuals were no longer given the death penalty? Or did I make that up in my head.

I sorta worship Thomas Jefferson, maybe I made that up but idk I swear I read about it.

So...yeah. It just wasn't exactly a huge step up.
