I thought it would be fun to do a Collaborative Timeline based on what if Bill Clinton and the UN went tougher on North Korea.

So come on in write along but don't get too unrealistic.

June 18th 1994:After several days of thinking. Secretary of State Warren Christopher and Un Ambassador Madeleine Albright head over to the UN General Headquarters in New York to propose UN sanctions against North Korea. Fearing that they will attack soon and to find the supply of energy weapons in Pyongyang

September 2nd, 1994: North Korean troops cross the border and the Second Korean War begins.

(I can jump back in the timeline to add more of the lead up to the conflict, right?)

July 19, 1994: Special Envoy to China Claiborne Pell and Russian Special Envoy to China Grigory Yavlinsky meet with Rong Yiren, Qian Qichen, and Wan Li. The two also meet secretly with Zhao Ziyang, Sergei Khrushchev, Wang Dan, Yan Mingfu, and Wu'erkaixi, with the knowledge of Yiren. Between them, Yiren agrees to help communications with double agents Hwang Jang-yop, Park Sang-hak, Kyong Wonha, recently reinstated(thanks to Hwang Jang-yop's influence) chief presidential security officer for Son Jong-Nam, and Jang Song-thaek. The next leader will be decided at a later date.

(Can we start doing, say, four or five sentence updates instead of just one-two sentence updates?)

July 2, 1994:

Rong Yiren places Jiang Zimen, Li Peng, Zhang Zhen, and half a dozen others on house arrest. Qaio Shi, Liu Xiaobo, Wei Jingsheng, Zhao Ziyang, and Li Changchun assist Yiren in what is essentially a coup.

July 3:
Qin Jiwei, Xu Qinxian, and a group of reformist and moderate officers arrested hardline officers, and then, with a group of student protestors numbering 40,000, sieged and arrested the Chinese leadership. Zhu Rongji and Wang Dan led a large segment of the populace in this march, and then they negotiated an agreement with Yiren to keep a ceasefire and current leadership until the Korean Crisis is over.

July 4, 1994: Yiren announces to the world that China will become “our world’s largest democracy”, pledging elections in July of 1996. Mikhail Gorbachev, Nelson Mandela, Coretta Scott King, P. V. Narasimha Rao, Richard von Weizsäcker, John Major, Ela Gandhi, Sirikit, Jehan Sadat, Ezer Weizman, and many other world leaders(former and present) and human rights activists attended this announcement and celebration.

July 5-6: Minor Communist revolts break out, but with the military reduced to pro-democracy and reformist officers, and the police throughout the country supported by reformists/democracy activists, these are quickly crushed. North Korea declares a state of emergency and demands an immediate Comintern meeting.

In response to continued tensions, Clinton orders MIM-104 Patriot Anti-Missile systems deployed to South Korea. A battery of three launchers is deployed to guard against North Korean missile launches. North Korea describes the deployment as an intentional provocation.

July 9th

US and South Korean forces begin a series of joint exercises; with the implication they are preparing to defend against an invasion. In desperation, China offers to host talks between the two nations to reach a diplomatic solution.
