"Herman who?" many will be asking. Herman Cain was a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Zell Miller back in 2004. He ran in the GOP primary against current Senator Johnny Isakson and then Congressman Mac Collins. Cain came in second place with 26% of the vote. His efforts to force a runoff with Johnny Isakson failed (Isakson received 53% of the vote).

The reason why I ask about Mr. Cain is because I was a huge fan of his and I know several others from the forum were interested in him. The question mainly goes out to any of our southern members/anyone who follows GA politics. Could he be a candidate for some office down in GA anytime soon? I was wondering about a Lt. Gov run but with Ralph Reed running, it wouldn't make much sense for Cain to jump in. Does Cain reside in a Dem/possibly open CD for a 2006 run?

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

Well, I answered some of my own questions thanks to Cain's site - http://hermancain.org/news/press-news-111504.asp

Though someone originally suggested a 2006 Lt. Gov. run, Cain for Governor 2010 can happen!

He'd make a good Secretary of Commerce or Treasury.

He was actually a candidate for awhile in 2000 (trying to pull a Steve Forbes-like candidacy) but that didn't last long.

That probably had alot to do with how little name recognition he had, especially in comparison to Forbes.

I doubt he ever took it that seriously. The reason why I compare him to Forbes is because he's a big buisnessman, running on that alone.

I don't know what a snollygoster is.

It turns out, surprisingly, that snollygoster is a real word:

"One, especially a politician, who is guided by personal advantage rather than by consistent, respectable principles."

How can someone say that about (of all people) Herman Cain?

I don't know enough about Cain to deem it true or untrue.  You'd have to ask Casey.

Well I can tell you that Cain has stuck with his principles and if he was only out for personal advantage, he'd be a candidate for Lt. Gov. or something for next year's election.

That is a great word!  Too bad it describes most politicians.  Smiley
