Cuomo said in his primary debate that he'll serve another full term as governor, which (if taken at face value) would appear to preclude a presidential run in 2020:

https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/news/politics/albany/2018/08/30/andrew-cuomo-rules-out-2020-run/1142588002/

That story notes that "I will serve four years as governor of New York.” is a more Shermanesque formulation that Cuomo's past comments.  As recently as two weeks ago he just said "I have no plans to run for president."

If Beto loses, could he give it a shot?

He shouldn't bother one way or the other. If he loses he will lose all relevancy, and if he wins he should focus on holding his seat as long as possible. A Democratic Senate seat out of Texas these days needs to be cherished.

If Beto wins, and the Democrat loses in 2020, Beto should run in 2024 rather than run for reelection.

Imagine if he somehow won the nomination and then lost to Trump.

He would be the guy that lost to Bush AND ALSO lost to Trump.

What a horrible legacy that would be.

Maybe. But if this November goes as well as it could for the Democrats, we'll probably have plenty of other rising stars by then too.

Politico's story on South Carolina lists all the upcoming visits to the state by potential 2020ers:

So far, it looks like Gillibrand is one of the few potential 2020 contenders who hasn't paid many (if any?) visits to one of the early primary states. I'm starting to wonder if she might not run at all after all.

She is close to Cuomo and may just defer to him if he runs, and I think she wouldn't go far if she ran. I'm not sure what her base is and why people would support her over say Warren or Harris.

If Kerry wanted to run a second time, he should have run in 2008.

Why would any sane Democrat want Kerry to win the nomination?

She has moved wayyyy to the left recently. She said she wants to abolish ICE and she voted against Mattis for god's sake! I still think she'll run. It's not like she had a primary challenger that caused her to move left.

Six months ago, Kasich was asked if he'd be open to running 3rd party / Indy, and he answered that he wasn't taking anything off the table.  Now, he is:

Avenatti's latest stunt:

"Make America America Again" is a very clunky slogan. I understand what it's trying to say, but there must be a better way to say it.

A close variant of it is "Let America be America Again," which has actually been used as a slogan in the past (as recently as 2004 by John Kerry) and goes back to a poem by Langston Hughes.

Merkley should do just fine in Polk County, Iowa...

Although a ton of Atlas posters don't get it, there are tons of similarities when it comes to "downstate Oregon" heavily agricultural and dairy, and many other early primary states in the US...

In addition to the Oregon agricultural "downstate" roots, we also see similarities when it comes to the manufacturing sector, including skilled manufacturing workers in machine and tooling intensive occupations....

Oregon has one of the highest percentage of workers in the US directly employed in manufacturing and production related occupations and industries to the present day....

Additionally, as I have posted on many threads on Atlas regarding questions such as "why isn't Oregon a giant Free-Trade state considering the "Smith & Ricardo theoretical "apples and oranges false dichotomy", fundamentally Oregonians have been screwed over for decades when it comes to "free trade" from the Timber Industry to the Tech Sector...

We are tired of being screwed over by Democratic and Republican Politicians alike that sacrifice our jobs, devastate our communities, destroy the environment, suppress and massacre rural agricultural workers globally, and then hide behind the sacred "Altar of Free Trade".

Enough is enough, and a "Prairie Populist" style message will still resonate from our communities and a faux populist Trump style message doesn't play so well in the small mill towns where I come from: "roots of my raising run deep"....

Merkley----Welcome to Polk County Iowa and I'm sure you will hit it out of the ballpark!!!!

Beto has as good a path to winning Texas as Trump had to the Presidency. That doesn't mean he'll win, but if there's a shock upset, he can do it. He needs to be flawless until election day though, and he's holding out pretty well. That's not for this thread though.

This is, however, totally an Avenatti stunt, and he's totally running - sadly.
