Michael Bloomberg is putting up $80 million to help the Dems take the House this year, and apparently some in his inner circle say it may be a way to test the waters for a presidential run....presumably as a Democrat:

I met Mike a few months ago and I *adore* the man but he's never going to get anywhere in the primaries. He's a surprisingly smart campaigner so I highly doubt he's going to try. He's got far better sway as the respected head of a growing media company - basically Trump's dream job.

This story is more definitively stating that Kander will run for mayor:

http://www.kmbc.com/article/kander-to-run-for-kcmo-mayor/21752706

Though I guess there'll inevitably remain some doubt until he formally announces it himself.

Dammit there goes my top choice for 2020

Realistically a former state SOS and failed Senate candidate was never really going to be a viable Presidential candidate.

Realistically, I see this as him running for veep. A moderate, heartland somewhat-big-city Mayor is a solid pick, IMO, especially for a Harris, Patrick, or Warren.

WTF is Bloomberg thinking? If he wants to run for President, he should go Indy...and he should've run in either 2008 or 2012.

Kander running for Kansas City mayor. This effectively removes him from 2020 contention.

Do y'all think Kamala is the first or amongst the first to announce?

I feel like she'd be the earlier ones to announce in order to get the most immediate attention. Once the 2018 elections happen and new politicians are inaugurated, I could see candidates start to announce as early as March or April. Maybe some lower tier candidates announce in December.

I think the unemployed candidates, like O'Malley, Castro, and McAuliffe, will go first.  Currently, they've got nothing much going on in their lives besides boosting Democratic candidates for the midterms.  Once the midterms are over, they might as well run for president for real.  Harris has a day job, so she might continue to pretend she's undecided on a presidential run for another couple of months after the midterms before formally declaring.

Bad idea. He is too moderate, too rich, and the exact kind of candidate that Trump would perform the best against (which is ironic because he is also a New York billionaire, but for whatever reason he always gets a pass for everything). Bloomberg should put all his political efforts into donating to Democratic candidates instead.

New poll of 2020 Democratic Primaries came out

Hillary at 2nd place.  If Biden doesn't run and Hillary is consistently up there in the polls, I wouldn't be surprised if she ran again.

She will likely have to deal with a crowded field. The Dnc won't stack the decks in her favor.

Politico asks Murphy, Gillibrand, and Sanders if they're interested in a presidential run, and they all use the f-word:

Flake met with the heads of CNN and MSNBC this week, potentially indicating that he's in the market to sign on for a gig as a cable TV pundit:

http://ktar.com/story/2124077/flake-meets-with-heads-of-msnbc-cnn-sparking-rumors-of-pundit-gig/

Presumably this downgrades the chances of him running for president at least a little, since it doesn't make much sense for him to sign a contract with one of the cable networks when he leaves office in January only to break the contract a couple of months later in order to run for prez.

CNN would hire him. Not sure about MSNBC... If they were to hire another former GOP officeholder, it would probably be a Joe Scarborough clone (Maybe Jon Huntsman?)
