Hopefully a Republican will make to the second place behind Newsom. Don't like the idea of the Democrat vs. Democrat race. A general election needs two alternatives center-left vs. center-right.

In principle, yeah. But a DvD Gov's election would make the house easier to take for Dems.

Although, to play devil's advocate, shouldn't voters have a say between two candidates that better fit the politics of the state? In other words, California is a pretty left state; if a plurality of its voters want a governor's race between a far left candidate and a center left candidate, then it's the state's right to do so.

We'd already have that with Newsom v. Villaraigosa.

Elections should have the choices that the voters select. It's silly to suggest otherwise.
