Then he cancels out any political advantage this might have given him by being the one politician to donate to Bob Menendez's legal fund. Even Hillary didn't want Menendez's endorsement.

Are tacky twitter messages worse than essays like this?

Yes, Bernie wrote something dumb 45 years ago. Who cares?

It also has nothing to do with this thread. We're talking about Booker at the moment.

The donations were several years ago. But republicans are going to use this against him if he runs. They have also been callling for the senators who received campaign cash from Menendez to return the donations. (It includes possible 2020 contenders like Kaine, Murphy and Warren who took between $ 5000-10000 from his PAC.)

That's unlikely to hurt in the general election.

It's probably better for Booker if he's married than not, but a progressive minor celebrity might rub some people the wrong way. It may not create the best contrast with Trump.

I'm 100% sure Booker will run, and so are most people.

Not bad. Not bad at all, and she's black to boot (no Harold Ford Jr problemhere)... that said, I highly recommend she find a job description other than "instagram poet". I'm sure she's an interesting person, considering Booker must be able to attract his pick of women.
Was there a public problem with Harold Ford Jr.'s marriage?

Also, Booker's baldness doesn't make him too attractive. Why did you say that?

Booker is an intelligent, young, up-and-coming Senator. Heck, his baldness could be seen as cool. As for Ford there was an infamous ad in the 2006 Senate election with the sub text that he was cavorting around with white women. That recent biography of Obama (which is gaining dust on my shelf) said he too recognized that being married to a white woman would be a political liability. Given his history I would've almost expected him to settle down with a nice Jewish girl.

Any claims about fitness would be abrogated when faced with Donald Trump, either way.

Well, she's young enough that, were Booker elected president, we might actually see presidential babies born in the White House for the first time in...what?  Over a century?

Cleveland seems like a possibility.

Also surprisingly her daughter is philosopher (famous for those trolley problems) Philippa Foot.

Patrick Kennedy is actually the last one, but he died quickly. JFK Jr. was only 2 months old when he moved into the White House. I guess Esther might be the only one born in the White House to survive very long.

It would be cool to have a young FLOTUS, yes. But not worth President Booker.

*bump*

Btw, Cleo did a Ted talk in November in which she recited a poem onstage, but looks like the video was just posted to the Ted website recently:

Here's a new profile of Cory Booker:

http://www.northjersey.com/story/news/columnists/mike-kelly/2017/09/14/cory-bookers-burden-senator-deflects-talk-presidential-run-now/513111001/

I've only skimmed it, but the most interesting thing to me was his mention of his relationship with Cleo:

They should get married in 2019, and spend their honeymoon in Des Moines.

I chuckled

I'm 21 now, this would be the equivalent of me marrying someone who was born yesterday in a few decades.
