George H W Bush considered him for Vice President in 1988 but decided against it because Domenici was a chain smoker.  Given his chain smoking it's impressive that he lived as long as he did.

I'm sure the Laxalt Family is not broken up by this. They don't even like Adam Laxalt and endorsed the Democrat over him in 2014, which suggests that there is a whole lot of animosity over the whole issue.

Like everyone in NM who isn't a dreadful hack, RIP FF is my opinion. Read the column in the Albuquerque Journal Deblano posted the link to for information on how important he was to NM. He may have been a 'Washington Insider', but he used that to help out NM. One last bit on how popular he was here: he won Rio Arriba County in 2002...and 1996...and 1990...and probably 1984. Those who know anything about NM will understand the importance of that. Tongue
