Feinstein stepped in it yesterday by partially praising Trump in SF of all places. Saying she had hope he could 'change' and eventually be a 'good president' It has drawn the ire of some Dems not only from the base but political players as well. State Senate Leader Kevin de Leon has attacked Feinstein over her comments stirring up speculation he could run against her.

http://www.latimes.com/politics/essential/la-pol-ca-essential-politics-updates-state-senate-leader-kevin-de-leon-fires-1504115822-htmlstory.html

Should a de Leon/Feinstein top two happen I think he has a good chance of beating her and it wouldn't even be close. She is way out of step with the state, I think this may end up like a Pete Stark or Mike Honda situation.

Feinstein should retire.

Plus, SoCal is way overdue for a Senator.

Shouldn't we all hope for successful presidents?

She's OK, better than Pelosi by far, but come on, we can do better, can't we?

We should all hope for successful presidents, but Feinstein just needs to go, she's been there too long. 4 terms and change is enough, and I don't really care what the excuse for voting her out is for any given voter.

If after one phrase, which base didn't like, a talk about primary begins, i would say one phrase only: too many idiots, both in the country and on this site...

Donald Trump's failures are America's failures which is why we should hope his administration isn't a permanent flaming dumpster fire.

So, Eugene Patterson "Pat" Harris (no relation to Kamala), a big time criminal defense attorney, is running against Feinstein in the Dem primary as a Berniecrat:

Kevin de Leon won't run. He's running for Lt. Governor.

It would make for an intriguing battle if some more left leaning Dem would make it into the runoff against Feinstein, and then we might see Feinstein try to carve out a coalition of the more conservative Dems, indys and all GOP voters to cobble together a majority.  I was hoping this might occur in the Harris Sanchez battle, but the California GOP is so inept statewide that they couldn't even get engaged to help Sanchez win.

Sure, but he's also just Some Guy. No one credible is going to run against Feinstein.

+1. She will be serving her last term, probably, and always all serious candidates will be absolutely content to wait.

Who would be the strongest candidate to replace Feinstein if she retired? Garcetti? Beccerra? Adam Schiff?

I'm willing to say if Feinstein changes her mind about 2018 then Chiang would drop out of the governor's race he's most likely to lose and make a run for Senate instead

Harris pretty much cleared the field when Boxer announced she was retiring. I think if Feinstein were to announce, there would be a a big field with another D vs D race.

Garcetti should primary Feinstein instead of running for Pres.

I don't actually like Garcetti, but it serves the dual purpose of nixing Feinstein and stopping Garcetti from running for Pres.

All of them would be fine, I guess, but as Alpha said I'm really hoping Chiang has a future after Newsom destroys him in the gubernatorial election.

I disagree. I hate Feinstein far more than Pelosi. Pelosi at least proved herself in 2006. Feinstein is way too conservative for the second most Democratic state in the country.

Sometimes her attempts at being bipartisan can be inappropriate and ridiculous. This is one of those attempts.

Feinstein announces that she will run for reelection:

Dianne Feinstein @DianneFeinstein
I am running for reelection to the Senate. Lots more to do: ending gun violence, combating climate change, access to healthcare. I’m all in!
