Not following how this is going to make Arizona all of a sudden blue.. 95% of people won't care.  It's a local sheriff..
That 5% is enough

Aropioa was a victim of a witch hunt!

Period

Come on.  He deliberately and repeatedly violated a federal court order.

Do the Trump 2016 voters who voted for Paul Penzone still vote for Trump in 2020?

Very likely not. In truth, Trump probably lost them long ago - in my experience, Trump-Penzone crossover voters were mostly your run of the mill "just don't like Clinton" types - but this is the last nail in the coffin when it comes to his Maricopa base. Arpaio's name is political hemlock in these parts.

Could the Trump-Penzone voters in 2016 flip Maricopa County in 2020?

I'd bet my savings on it. I'd also bet my savings on those voters sinking Ward in next year's Senate GE.

What about the likely Class 3 special election in 2018 or 2020? Might this seat go to a Democrat?

Also much, much likelier at this point, although we'd need the right candidate (Gallego and Stanton come to mind). I doubt this is going to affect Ducey's political prospects much - he's not a great governor, but he isn't an idiot either - but pardoning Arpaio might be one of Trump's most baffling self-inflicted foot-shots yet. This state was already turning against him, and now he's all but guaranteed the flip by alienating Maricopa County.

These Republican leaders never care about law and order. They always pardon crooks like this asshole. It's always been about skin color.

Of course he was.  He acted like a witch and was caught doing it even after being told not to.  He was an arrogant SOB who thought that he was above the law, because it's not illegal when the sheriff does it.

Arpaio is even more unpopular than Trump here. This will backfire badly.

Unless that was the intention: get Flake in an impossible situation so he loses to Ward.

It's worth noting that almost every local level office (save for Sheriff where Arpaio lost by 12 and Assessor, which was uncontested) in Maricopa County was within single digits. There is a clear trend there and something like this could have impact. Arpaio did actually break the law.

Anyone still have doubts about Trump's tacit endorsement of racially-fueled social Darwinism? Yeah, no, thank you.

We already saw the supposed strength of the giant asleep in 2016.

If you read studies about Prop 187, it caused Latino registration and civic engagment to explode. Only 8% of Latinos turned out for Prop 187, but after it passed, Latino's became woke and began to register in droves. Meanwhile, in Texas, where the Texas GOP promised not to pass laws like Prop 187, the GOP continued to garner a large share of the Latino vote with low turnouts:

Actually, it wasn't so much Prop 187 as Miguel Contreras successful campaign to unionize Hispanics, which is why things like SB-1070 and other reactionary laws in the right-to-work border states haven't had an effect.
