Did Collins's vote against the health care bill hurt her that much among Maine Republicans?

Probably. Same Maine Republicans who put Trump's evil twin LePage in office twice.

Nope, she's been unpopular among the tea party state GOP for awhile now.

She'd probably run as an independent instead, and have a good shot of winning, like Murkowski.

I disagree. Collins is no Angus King.

Could be bad news for 2020. But she has time to recover.

I could see this leading her to retirement. Or, perhaps, running for Governor, potentially as an Independent, which is less partisan and where she would definitely get some Democratic support.

I thought this was in the Congressional Polls sub-forum. lol. Collins is in deep sh*t.

Collins running as an independent would probably be very good news for Mayhew, or whoever ended up as the Republican candidate.

Great poll!

That said, Mayhew isn't exactly the strongest candidate, right?
Nope. Tied to LePage without the LePage advantages.

I don't have a doubt in my mind that Collins would win in a cakewalk if she ran as an indie.  She'd win a majority of independents, many Dems, and enough Republicans.  It's still an open question whether she's willing to make the jump, though, given her long history with the GOP.

She can just rejoin the GOP after can't she?

I still strongly support Susan Collins. GOP Primary voters continue to prove why our party is mocked so much.

Theoretically, yes, but I don't know why she'd bother after that

Why wouldn't she?  Murkowski did.

Maine loves its independent candidates for governor, though. Even nobodies like Barbara Merrill can get 20% of the vote. She could win the gubernatorial race as an independent.

She would be foolish to run for Governor imo.
