Last vote updated (sheet): Yankee
Last vote updated (map): yankee
Turnout: 59.2%

The July elections for the Southern Chamber of Delegates and Southern Governor begin on July 14, 2017, and extend through July 16. Regular updates will be posted here. Unfortunately, I will be driving for about 7 hours on July 14, and another 7-8 on July 15, and will only be able to update the spreadsheet (and not the maps) periodically during this time. If no updates to the maps have been posted for some time, check the spreadsheet.

Due to the recent special gubernatorial election two weeks ago, no candidates are challenging Leinad on the ballot, although Peebs has declared a write-in campaign.

Chamber candidates:
Santander
Bagel23
Classic Conservative
diptheriadan
politicalmasta73
West_Midlander
vern1988

LibertarianRepublican (TheShadowyAbyss)
JustinTimeCuber
TimTurner

For the chamber election, I will not be tallying party-wide votes, because the Federalist slate of candidates and the actual number of Federalists running in the election are not the same.

I have been attempting to modify my spreadsheet to automatically carry out STV procedures. So far, the spreadsheet correctly reallocates votes for eliminated and elected candidates; however, I forgot to account for the possibility that a voter lists both 1st and 2nd preferences for eliminated candidates, requiring consideration of the 3rd preference. Until I fix this, disregard the 2nd-round column.

The spreadsheet is below:

Maps are below:

Turnout would have to be record setting for Classic to lose at this point.

Update: Peebs has just informed me that she will be using the Paul Lockett STV calculator to determine the chamber winners.  Therefore, you can disregard the 'elected' and 'elim' columns in my spreadsheet.

Since counting methods always seem to cause controversy for these sorts of elections, there are two important points to make about Paul Lockett's calculator.

1) The quota can be a fraction, as it is rounded up to two decimal places. The formula used by PL is totalvotes/(seats+1), while the typical formula is 1+floor(totalvotes/(seats+1)). This means that the current quota is 3.00, rather than 4.

2) Only one candidate is elected at a time, starting at the person with the highest votes. This is in contrast to the standard practice of electing everyone who meets or exceeds the quota on the first round, and reallocating afterwards.

Does Dukes vote add to the total number of voters?

No, invalid votes are not counted towards the total. In this case, Duke isn't registered, so I'm not including his vote in my turnout numbers either.

Okay, but this may cause you to lose on the first ballot for a lack of first preferences.

Maps have been updated.

I also ran all of the votes received thus far through Paul Lockett's calculator (since that is what will be used to determine the final results).

The following are elected (at the moment):
Classic Conservative
vern1988
Santander
diptheriadan
West_Midlander
TimTurner
politicalmasta73

Edit: If the most recent vote (sjoyce) is added, this switches out Tim for JTC.

I must say this change in method makes absolutely no sense and will only serve to confuse people since that is not the way that the House is calculated.

what would the seats look like if they were calculated like the House?

I don't think they change appreciably in this instance. Ultimately, the basic steps will still be carried out, although perhaps in a different order.

However, the difference in methodology does become important in a very close election (like the May election, where the winner was determined by less than a tenth of a vote, iirc) or in an election where preferences are distributed very unevenly, making the order of elimination very important.

I've been looking back through past threads on this topic, and there's always some silly controversy because half of the people are counting votes using the Wright system and half of the people are using PL.
