FF, but not as unambiguously so as media reports make her out to be.

Why do atheists hate her so much? Is it one of those "looks horrible without religious context" things like many of God's actions in the Old Testament?

FF. The criticisms of Hitchens and his ilk seem to consist of either being mad that a nun ran her charity according to Catholic doctrine or ranting about a third world hospice not providing first world level health care Roll Eyes

As a Catholic, I might be expected to support her uncritically. Instead, my views on her are highly mixed.

Somewhere between these. She's a canonized saint so I absolutely believe that she made it to heaven, but that doesn't mean one has to be uncritical of her.

My favorite perspective on her lifelong spiritual dryness--an aspect of her life that is "controversial" in some circles, for some reason--comes from Leonard Cohen:

Quote
you don’t want to go out any more
it’s bearable alone
just you and the bad news
and the confession of Mother Theresa
G-d bless her for letting us know
that she couldn’t take it either

This post makes no sense whatsoever.

Let me walk you through:

1. Athiests hate Mother Teresa.
2. Past me was asking why.
3. Past me was suggesting that her actions may have been acceptable in a religious context, but are horrible when the two are sepperated.
4. Past me refered to the actions of God in the Old Testament as similar; acceptable in religious context, unacceptable when divorced from religion.
