I can see it happening in the next 20-30 years, if things go right. If the Republicans embrace Trump style politics, it's possible they can become the party of the working class. If they do that and embrace a more moderate platform on social issues (which the vast majority of young people have liberal views on), it is possible that traditional Democratic strongholds like Vermont and Rhode Island can become Republican states. In terms of Texas, I don't see it going Democrat anytime soon, especially if progressives take over the party. Even minorities in Texas are fairly conservative so I don't see Texas even being a competitive state for at least 20 years.
I don't think the GOP will ever truly become the party of the working class. It never was. It's always been the party of business and rich people. The interests of workers on one end and richie types and business on the other (in a country like the US) are almost inheritly in deep conflict, from a political perspective.

I assumed he knows and was just making reference to the fact that BDM was not one of the selections.

Scarlet is convinced I'm a rabid R-MI in disguise (she actually said that and there was an argument that went on for at least a week about it), so... yeah. Very mature.

There are many things I've done (on and especially off atlas)  that I'd call completely insane. Thinking you're a sock doesn't make that list. I'm not saying you are atm, but I wouldn't be surprised if you turned out to be one (tbh I only suspected you because other people like bagel, liberalrocks, etc were/are making me suspicious already).

i enjoy the wittiness of this post.

He's a far better poster than either of you. I'm not claiming to be a great poster either.

I take this as a compliment. Cheesy

I see they are at it again with the bitching and whining about Hillary.  Move the hell on, she beat him fair and square.

Clinton writes a book where she "bitches and whines" about people that supposedly contributed to her loss and it's the people reporting on it who need to move on? I understand that criticism of Mother hurts you guys deeply, but come on, let's be rational here.

Well, there were many outside factors that contributed to her loss.  Sure, she contributed to her own loss as well, but it's completely warranted to place blame on other factors because they did happen.

I don't disagree with that, but the idea that Clinton throwing a tantrum over a primary that happened a year ago doesn't constitute "whining" but reporting on/responding to it does defies simple logic.

It'd be one thing if Hillary left politics after her loss and people still chose to criticize her. That would constitute needless whining, sure. But as long as she chooses to remain a vocal public figure, criticizing what she says is fair game, even if it does end up hurting her supporters' feelings.

Rumor on Twitter that Trump is now engaging with Shumer on a plan to *repeal* the debt ceiling

Honestly that would be one of the best policy outcomes of the Trump admin. The debt ceiling is one of the dumbest, destabilizing, own-goal creating inventions of American politics and only a country as wealthy and sloth with economic clout would ever conjure up something as asinine as it. If this is true - big if - then Trump/Schumer have my full support

While we should always raise the debt ceiling in time, we need its mere presence to force congress to discuss budget issues and our tragic deficits and debt. I could only support abolishment of the debt ceiling if it was tied to the passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment to the US Constitution.

You literally understand nothing, do you?

Yeah, if you want to get a good idea of why balancing the budget is not a good idea during a recession, take a look at the budgets of 1929-1932.  Deficit spending is a key recession-fighting tool along with an aggressive monetary policy; while I think it can be overused, to tie the hands of Congress during a crisis is just silly.

I remain studiously opposed to the use of superlatives. To pick one example, 4,685,047 people voted Trump in the great state of Texas. Not fair to categorize them like that.

Depends how we define "greatest."

As an American, I certainly feel pride for my country and would like to say it is the greatest, but it is very much a subjective call, unless we're defining it by a certain metric.

Since I'm much closer to Democrats- arguably trade (I'm to the right on this issue, as opposed to the current Republican President) and some foreign policy, since I'm probably more hawkish than usual Democrats. Also probably some economic issues like spending, but it's hard to be on the right economically in the US since it's such a capitalist nation.
