/afp/20040428/ts_alt_afp/us_vote_arab_poll&cid=1506&ncid=1963&sid=96378801

A Zogby poll during the 2000 presidential campaign showed Bush beating Democrat Al Gore 46 percent to 29 percent among Arab-American voters in the same four states, with Nader receiving 13 percent of the vote.

"At present Kerry is in a position to completely flip these results by beating the president 45 to 28 percent, with Nader at 13 percent," said John Zogby.

In the United States, there are some 3.5 million Arab-Americans, which translates into 1.7 million votes, or around one percent of an electorate of about 110 million US voters. However, Arab-Americans have a high turnout rate, he said.

Arab-Americans make up about five percent of the Michigan electorate, two percent of the Florida and Ohio electorate, and about 1.5 percent in Pennsylvania.

Not surprising, Kerry should get 55-60% of this etchnic group's vote.

Yes, I don't think that Bush will win the city of Dearborn like he did in 2000.

How is it not surprising? Bush had a large lead among Arab-Americans in 2000. Bush is probably going to lose some support from the Cuban-Americans in Florida.

The writings are on the wall, Bush might win the PV but not the EV.

Bush freed Muslims and took a terrible Muslim out of power, and the Arab-Americans hate him for it. I am absolutely ashamed.

Dearborn's muslims are mostly Iraqi exiles, I'd think they would like Bush.  The exiles are favored to run Iraq by DoD, after all.

Wayne County is very Democratic, but Bush won Dearborn in 2000. Dearborn is generally a swing area.

No, they just don't like the patriot act, or how the country currently loathes radical Islam.

well, presumably many muslims are uncomfortable with the many US bases on the peninsula.  and, many may not completely respect the aristocracy in that country.  So, the friend of the enemy is the enemy.  maybe?

the saudi royal family being wahabi may have something to do with it.
the u.s. government being way too chummy with sharon doesn't help either.

Most U.S. Arabs are Christian, not Muslim, and they typically left the Middle East at least partially to escape the misery of living as a minority in Muslim countries.  So its no surprise they're Republicans.

No. Most Muslims, despite what they say, support those psychos behind closed doors. Most Muslims in this country are complete hippocrits. They drink alcohol and wear western clothes, but are up in arms when somebody criticizes the holy laws

So muslims think the US had ought to support radical Islam?

You can't be 'even' in the middle east.  You pick a side.  I vote we stick with Isreal and eliminate the radical Islamists.

That is why my dad left Egypt in 1979. There is a lot of descrimination against Christians.
