I don't think Congress will impeach Trump. It's GOP controlled and he would need to hemorrhage GOP support in order for GOP to impeach

If Trump ate a baby on live television, Republicans in Congress would blame the baby.

And Hillary.

If this continues they'll have to make a choice. Keeping Trump on when he has not only blatantly obstructed justice but is also dragging the GOP down and stalling their agenda with these scandals won't be worth it.

I don't know.
It's too early to tell.
If Muller discloses massive and decisive evidence, then the GOP may have no choice.
Otherwise, Americans will be in complete shock and will vote many of them out, en masse, come 2018.

Would the GOP in face of massive evidence of misconduct defend trump?

If anyone honestly think the GOP would impeach Trump, you're either naive or insane.

We don't need the whole GOP. Just enough to hit 218 in the House and 67 in the Senate. A tall order, but midterms + a hypothetical indictment make it much more attainable.

Would 15 GOP senators vote to impeach?

I think if there was a recorded conversation then yes they would

That, plus it'd depend heavily on public reaction. They may bash the polls, but they definitely don't ignore them. If Trump's numbers and, by not impeaching him, their numbers begin to plummet, you'll see them jump ship faster than you can imagine. They're committed to their agenda - not Trump. He's simply there to sign what they send him. They have no loyalty to him, but they know a sizeable percentage of the population - and their base - do. So, it all comes down to the numbers.

Anyway, this is an investigation and we must wait to see what fruit it bears. If they find Trump guilty, then all hell breaks loose. But there is a good chance they either lack the evidence or he simply is not guilty of obstruction of justice.

Good question. I'm not positive on the exact answer.
More than likely some of them (especially the nutty ones in The House) would defend trump regardless of the severity of what is disclosed.
But, I would guess that a majority of Republicans would move to "punish" trump.

For Republicans to even consider impeachment I think the criteria would be:

1. Has Trump's support among Republicans declined to a degree that they'd consider appreciable/significant?
2. Have the scandals become so much that nothing can get accomplished on the legislative front?

If at any point both of these are met and there's intense public pressure then there's a chance.

I really don't think there's going to be any massive 'bombshell' though. Especially not with regard to Russia/possible collusion, because to be frank it's looking less and less likely that any serious collusion actually occurred. No doubt, Russia intervened and they did so to benefit Trump, not Hillary. That's bad enough in and of itself. But I don't think there was much reciprocity. However, there probably is some very shady stuff elsewhere and it could very well be uncovered in the course of this investigation.

Like, he's not withholding his tax returns just because. There's a reason. Granted, minimally and in the most benign sense it may just be a narcissistic inability to publicly admit that he's maybe not worth as much as he says he is, but it could very well be something more substantial and indicative of some form of wrongdoing on his part.

Well, if it gets to the Senate, it would be a vote to convict, so I assume it would depend on what evidence Mueller puts forward, which will presumably not be for a while. If you're looking for a list of 15 Republicans who might vote against Trump, here's roughly my list based on Clinton-state Republicans, those with a moderate/maverick reputation, and those with a personal beef with Trump:

1. Sasse
2. Paul
3. Graham
4. McCain
5. Heller
6. Flake
7. Collins
8. Murkowski
9. Portman
10. Gardner
11. Rubio
12. Lee
13. Hatch
14. Corker
15. Cruz - it would certainly be interesting to watch the battle of "he said my dad killed JFK" vs. "I love how much everyone hates me" play out in Cruz's head

I thought they'd need 19 GOP senators to switch? There's 46 Democrats, 2 Independents, and 52 Republicans. So you would need to win over 19 GOP senators to reach 67 if your baseline is 48.
