If we ever wanted to know what's wrong with our country, just read some of the posts in this thread.

People were shot, and some people here are bringing up politics.

I imagine this thread will get to at least 8 pages before they lock it.

Horrible. I wish Scalise as well as the other injured a quick and full recovery.

I don't want to politicize that, but maybe, just maybe, the incident raises some awareness among GOPers that gun sales need common-sense regulation, even though they can't prevent any gun violence.

Are you serious? I think it's absolutely inappropriate to laugh about this. Scalise may be a political HP, but he does not deserve to be shot.

The shooting of a member of congress is an explicitly political act

Wrong.

At the base line, sure...this happened because they're politicians (the same way that cops are targeted because they are cops).  But the issue is not politics--the issue is crazy people with guns who make crazy decisions and only want to create chaos.

This whole thread needs to be burned to the ground. And after this is done a nuclear bomb needs to be detonated on top of it.

Yeah, this guy would have surely given up his weapon :-D

"Gun control" is a myth and only benefits the criminals who have always weapons.

fake german!

You? Ok, never thought you really are German, but I guessed you're having a Schäferhund ;-)

I'm sorry, but it's absurd to say 'don't bring politics into this!'. Like I said before, the shooting of a member of congress is by definition a political act, and it's completely legitimate to discuss what this says about American society

Rep. Roger Williams was also shot. No update on his condition.

Ooh, strike 2.

Both these gentlemen voted to strip 24 million people of their health insurance last month.
Disgusting post (and yeah, tons of ways for you to obfuscate what you mean, but it's pretty clear).

The Gangster asked whether these are Republicans or Dems. Clear political act.

So in your view the assassinations of JFK, RFK, MLK etc. are not political, just the actions of 'crazy people with guns'?

Human beings are human beings. If you downplay the attempted massacre of people and the shooting of individuals due to politics - seek help. There's a time for political debate, arguing, and so on, but have enough decency to realize this is not the time for that.

I disagree, for reasons stated above.

We shouldn't be discussing this along political lines.  This didn't happen because the victims were anti-abortion, or pro-Trump, or whatever else.  This happened because a deranged man decided to shoot people.

If he wasn't shooting up congressmen, he'd be shooting up police officers, or EMTs, or teachers, or kids.

Crazy people exist.

Mental health is overlooked in our society.

This is NOT something for you to play politics with.

Also just to throw a bit of water on Dems are shooting people narrative, the gunman as described by Jeff Flake has a different description of the man who asked whether or not the people practising were Dems or Reps.

Agree to disagree. I think it's fine to discuss the politics of it, but it's crossing the line when people try to minimise the event because of the victims voting record or attempt to use it to smear their opponents. Those people should be ashamed of themselves.

Um, if someone is planning on shooting up defenseless people, then yea I'd say there's some mental health issues going on there.

The tolerant Left strikes again, disgusting and unbelieveable that such suspects are tolerated here. Leftists always get personal, insult and spread hate and nothing happens, meanwhile I'm getting posts deleted like that:

"All left-wing arguments against GOP bills now boil down to:
1. It will kill children
OR
2. It will make it too difficult to kill children

POTUS TRUMP TWEET:

I am watching the Democrats trying to defend the "you can keep you doctor, you can keep your plan & premiums will go down" ObamaCare lie.""

What a left wing bubble and bias here. Hillarious.
Why on earth are you talking about Obamacare when multiple people have just been shot?

But okay, let's wait for confirmation.

Can we please hold back on the trolling and wild speculation to stir people up? This is a new news story. Let's focus on the facts and what's happening.

Can we hold off for a moment on trying to determine the motive of a person we know nothing about?

When there might be an explanation other than political animus we must not assume political animus. Good police work rules out innocent explanations of what might otherwise be motivations for serious crimes. It could be mental illness, family disputes, foreign or domestic terrorism -- who knows?

Let the stories unfold before the general public (that includes us) draws any conclusions. Attacks on members of Congress and their staff are rare.
