As much as I dislike Gianforte and deplore his conduct, this thread title is misleading. He has a deadline for appearing for his initial arraignment, which hasn't passed yet and can be extended, and according to the article such continuance apparently is going to be requested.

Nothing to see here folks. He filed for re-election as expected, and he's seeking a run of the mill extension for entering his initial plea. This hardly constitutes "resisting a subpoena".

If I had to guess, he and his counsel are engaging in pre-plea negotiations with the prosecution to see if a plea agreement can be entered at initial appearance so he can (he hopes) get this behind him ASAP rather than letting it drag on into next year.
