One sees this under dictatorial rule. Whether one approves or disapproves of the objects of the protest, use of such methods to monitor and harass lawful protesters looks like something out of a KGB playbook.

I am beginning to question whether law enforcement is dully united under President Trump as it might have been under Barack Obama or even Dubya. Leaks would come from some law enforcement agency, and I will not say which agency I suspect.

A government that treats peaceful protesters as terrorists is on the brink of initiating a reign of terror if it isn't doing so already. We are in danger of dictatorship.

If you mean regular police, then they will never betray Trump, so long as the Trump administration and the Sessions DOJ permit American law enforcement to kill innocents (especially minorities) without repercussions. If you mean the FBI, then things might get interesting.

That said, using security contractors is above and beyond deploying regular police.
