What's more interesting is the thought of Senator Romney.

I'm no fan, but I'd rather have him stay than his seat taken by a tea partier.

This article says he will announce in the fall and then go on to do work at the Hatch Foundation http://www.politicaldog101.com/2017/05/25/utah-sen-hatch-leaning-towards-retiring-romney-run-coming/

I knew it.
My intuition told me that, when he intimated that he was going to run again, it did not make any sense, and there was still strong potential for him to change his mind and retire after all.
It has, many times, seemed inappropriate for a Senator to announce retirement roughly 22 months before the end of the term, perhaps because they often seem to hamstring their own effectiveness at continuing their job for those remaining 22 months.
He was 42 y.o. when he got elected, and now he'll be 84 y.o. when he retires, having served seven terms. It isn't, of course a record, and he'll be several months shy of being on Congressional Quarterly's "Congressional Half-Life" list. But it certainly is time to retire before he gets on that list.

Retire so we can have one of America's greatest leaders in the senate: Mitt Romney, a personal hero.

The irony is that he ran against Frank Moss on the grounds that's been in the Senate for too long. Now, Orrin Hatch has been in the Senate longer than Frank Moss.

He's been in office more than twice as long as Frank Moss, and has done far less with all those years than Moss did in three terms. Moss was a liberal lion, and a good man.

I think in all likelihood it would end up being Romney who replaces him, should he retire.
