Yes, personal responsibility is a horrible horrible thing.

That bill was just another giveaway to the credit card industry. There was no exception for medical crisis bills (which account for at least 50% of bankruptcies) or divorce (which account for most others).

The value of the credit card companies went up after the bill was passed, MBNA was bought out by Bank of America, and now the state of Delaware will lose thousands of jobs (both Senators Carper and Biden voted for the bankruptcy bill).

This giveaway to credit card companies will result in thousands of lost jobs and will screw over the average American who has an unexpected, catostrophic illness or goes through a messy divorce.

I'm not happy with Allyson Schwartz or Joe Biden voting for that bill as well.  I do like both of them otherwise.

Best in House and Senate: Arkansas.  I'm not biased, but we have some great Senators and Representatives.

Worst: hmm, maybe New Hampshire

but remember, senator lincoln wont reurn your father's phone calls.

I saw Blanche Lincoln in an elevator while I was interning in DC. Nice lady.

Best House:
Delaware
Connecticut
New Mexico

Caught my attention...

While I agree that NM has a pretty good House delegation - watching all of them and both Senators fighting for Cannon AFB is nice to see Smiley - I'm curious why you think so, way out there in PA. Wink

*Ahem*  Inhofe -Staunch Conservative on social issues.  Take a look at Oklahoma.  It's a lot different than SoCal.

I realize right-wing Oklahomans may like him, but someone who claims to side with Democrats on the forum?

I suppose Inhofe gets credit for his efforts in the House to force transparency on discharge petitions.  But that effort is  more than counteracted by his offenses as a senator, particularly against the environment in his capacity as chair of the environment and natural resources committee...

First off, I'm a moderate (as most Southern Dems are).  I don't like Inhofe and completely disagree with his stance on environmental issues, but I am saying that Oklahomans are generally more conservative than Californians and will vote for an extreme social conservative like Inhofe.  That's all.

Sure....my response above is more aimed at Dave, who claimed to highly regard Inhofe, not at you...

Though I'm personally liberal on all fronts, I like pragmatic moderates of all stripes and would like to see a populist (socially moderate, economically liberal) Democratic party fighting a traditionally liberal (socially moderate, economically conservative) Republican party... I would continue to be a fairly staunch Democrat in such a system though crossing party lines would not be as unthinkable as it is today...

That said, I appreciate southern democrats like yourself and welcome to the forum...you appear to be fairly new (as am I), though you may have, of course, have lurked around for quite a while without posting...

I don't know much about Pearce, but I generally agree with Udall, and Wilson is very sane for a Republican.

Best House: PA (even better without Schwartz and Fattah), OH, LA, GA, SC

Worst Senate: NY, NJ, MA, VT, CA
Worse House: SD, MD, WA, HI, MA

PA isn't quite my worst, but close to it even with Schwartz and Fattah.  SD maybe one of my best.  Stephanie Herseth is SOOOOOO HOT!

What do you think of Domenici and Bingaman?

Domenici-like Wilson a very thoughtful Republican, who legitimately cares about the issues.

Bingaman-like Paul Sarbanes, Herb Kohl, Mark Dayton or Barbara Milkulski, I don't mind their politics that much (they're all more liberal than I am though), but contribute next to nothing to the Senate.

To nini2287: Pearce is kinda like the conservative reflection of Udall. I've actually met him, and he's really quite nice. Wilson is by far the most moderate of the lot, and my favorite of the three. Wink I agree about Domenici, and as for Bingaman...way too liberal for me, but every once in a while he does something good on the natural resources front. I'm not sure what else he does either. Tongue

To virginian87: Welcome to someone else who knows NM is an actual U.S. state. Smiley You should probably take the Political Compass. Wink

Are you a Feingold fan?

You must be way more liberal than I thought if you think Bernie Sanders is a great congressman.

I claim to side with the Democrats, do I?

I can assure you I don't hold Inhofe in high regard at all. What happened was, according to www.speakout.com/VoteMatch, Inhofe was my fourth most compatible match, which is something I found rather bemusing

On balance, I'd describe myself as a moderate Democrat with a strong southern orientation and, as such, trend populist on some personal/social issues

Jfern, I know we have had our differences but even you must have caught on by now that I'm no Republican

He's a Socialist.  We need less of them in this country.
