1) The United States will purchase crude oil extracted from the Athabasca Oil Sands region of Canada at 85% of the market price for the next 7 years.

2) The purchase of this crude oil shall not be limited to less than 50 million barrels per year for the first two years.  In the following years, it shall not be limited to less than 100 million barrels.

3) The United States government shall grant $90 million to the Oil Companies opperating in the Athabasca Oil Sands region.  This money will go towards the building of new facilities and also to partially offset the loss of selling the oil below market value.

4) A renegotiation of terms will take place once the affore mentioned 7 year have passed.

This was the best deal I could get.  I urge the Senators and the President to agree to bring this deal forward to the Senate and sign it into law immediatly.  I specifically request that this be expidited to the top of Senate business.

If the President pro tempore consents, I will bring this proposal forward forthwith.

Well, Gabu seems to be absent, but he told me when I posted this that he would bring it to top priority as soon as you said it was alright.

I'm afraid that I can't introduce legislation; a Senator will have to do it.

Just to put it in writing, yes, I do approve of the decision to bump this legislation to the start of the queue, given that it's a pressing matter.

Alright.  Anyone like to say something to start the debate.  I am free for questions.

I'll start with a fairly basic question:

How much will this deal affect gas prices?

I don't have precise figures for you, as this is all speculation, but I think that we can conservatively expect a 5% drop in fuel prices.  That might not seem like much, but it would have a major impact on the economy as a whole and will affect many in a personal why, esspecially those who use oil to heat their homes and businesses.

That seems very considerable, actually, over a long period of time. Seems like an excellent idea.

Might I also point out that you can subtract 9 cents per gallon from real world gas prices to Atlasia because we cut the gas tax by half under JFK.  Just some general info on Atlasia versus America in this field.

I really have nothing to say on this legislation (for a change).  I support it.

With the consent of the PPT:

The question is on final passage of the Oil Trade Agreement. All those in favor, say Aye; those opposed, say No.
