White female, easily. Richardson won't run, we already had a white female on a Presidential ticket, and people like Hillary Clinton, Mary Landrieu, Elizabeth Dole, etc -- although I doubt any would win, they all have a better CHANCE of winning than a lot of other minorities.

Without analyzing the current field...

B, followed closely by C.

It may end up being D, but not with Hillary, certainly.

E is obviously a joke, and I don't expect A for at least fifty, if not a hundred, years.

I don't know.  How's that for an answer?

Right now, it looks like a white female president has the strongest shot, in the form of that devil incarnate, Hillary Rodham Clinton.  If she doesn't make it, all bets are off, because there are few other white women in a position to run at this point.

I don't see an electable black male on the horizon who is willing to run.  Condi Rice is the only possible black female I can think of, and it is doubtful that she will run.  Barack Obama has been oversold in my opinion by people who know nothing about him, and only like the IDEA of someone like him.  That is the kiss of death, usually, because the real person can never live up to the hyped-up expectations.

A latino male is highly plausible, but I don't know when the right one will appear.  Latinos have a much easier time than blacks in ultimately becoming a part of the majority and blending in.

To sum it up, I have no idea.

Exactly.  It's the Curse of the Keynote Speaker.

Neither Bayh nor Ford nor Obama will get anywhere beyond where they are now.

I say a white female, but no one is talking at all about Ken Salazar from CO. What does everyone think of him? Could he appear on the ticket anytime soon? He had a much tougher opponent last fall for his senate seat than O'Bama. I thought that was an unexpected surprise for the Democrats with him winning.

Anyway, a distant second to a white female would be a latino male.

In regards to Ford, yes I agree. But Bayh? Please, the guy is a popular former governor and current senator in a SOLID republican state, who, despite being a Democrat wins consistently. He's relatively good-looking, white & christian, telegenic and appeals to independents.

As for Obama. Give the guy a break. Let him sit as a senator etc for a few years. Its too early to say yes or no either way.

I would say White Jewish Male (Feingold) or White Female (Clinton) have decent shots at happening for 08

Black Male (Obama) is a real possibility for 12 or 16

Male Hispanic  (Richardson would have a real good chance of winning) but don't think its that likely he will run or win the Dem nomination.

As far as possible people in the GOP other than Elizabeth Dole possibility I don't see any non christian white male Republicans who have a real legit chance of winning (Condi to a point, but I doubt she will run & with the way things are going now for Bush anyone within his administartion is probably damged goods for future Presidential  elctions)

My theory is that only the second wave of an "out" group can win the presidency.

Jesse Jackson and Fat Al Sharpton are examples of "first wave" candidates.  They are primarily identified with blacks, and have little appeal outside the black community except among guilty white liberals who simply want to prove how tolerant they are.  They don't stand of winning the presidency.

Colin Powell and Condeleeza Rice are second wave candidates, black, but not primarily identified with black issues.  This type of candidate could stand a good chance.

Hillary Clinton in my opinion is still a first wave feminist.  She is primarily engaged with women's issues, though not as markedly as Jackson and Sharpton are with black issues.  But I still have doubts about her electability because she has not really gotten beyond the dreadful radical feminism that she picked up in her radical Yalie days.  I think the first woman president will be one who has moved beyond an obsession with feminism.

I don't think Feingold stands a chance, regardless of religion.  Obama is an unknown quantity at this point, and I think all those who extol his virtues without knowing anything about him are doing him a big disservice, because the real man will not match up to the hype, and that could really hurt him.  People love the idea of him, but know little about him.  Still, he's a good example of a second wave black candidate, who appeals beyond blacks and does not project the politics of resentment, and supporting even reprehensible black behavior, that Jackson and Sharpton do.

Richardson is interesting.  His name doesn't even sound latino, and that helps.  I think latinos are far more politically and culturally diverse than some other "minority" groups, particularly blacks, and will pull into the mainstream ahead of blacks if present trends continue.  This creates a strong possibility that a latino could be elected ahead of a black person.

I think it's premature to say that anybody associated with the Bush administration will be tainted in 2008, but there will probably be some fatigue at that point.

1. Of your four grandparents, one is Black, one is white, one is Latino, and the other donated their sperm to a sperm bank, so they don't know what he looks like.
2. She's a conservative Democrat.

I love how the "Party of the People" never misses the oppertunity to attack the intellegence of said people, when "their party" is met with a lack of success at the ballot box.
