The joke was definitely in bad taste, and considering this is about politics he should have known better. However, in the context of the joke, he was talking about needing more women to participate in what they were doing, and then he cracked the joke about how he saw statistics about older white male suicide, which his joke's aim was to emphasize his previous point about needing more women. This wasn't some anti-white men SJW stereotype.

The suicide rates have been going up mainly with "Non-College Whites" and not "College Educated Whites" so to label this thread as "Rising White Suicide Rates" is kind of misleading.

The idea that working in (one's understanding of) people's "best interest" somehow absolves one from the moral duty to care for and empathize with these people, is one of the most pernicious ideas in modern politics.
