The highlights.
October 2, 2017: President Trump resigns in the morning amidst investigations and a mild feeling that he had finally stopped "winning". VPence takes the oath of office at noon.
January 9, 2018: Ambassador Haley is confirmed as Vice President. She takes the oath of office the next day.
July 23, 2020: 14 Democratic presidential candidates are assassinated by a man identified only as "dfw". Governor Cuomo, the only candidate that ran who wasn't assassinated, reluctantly accepts the nomination.
November 3, 2020: Despite a poor campaign, Cuomo rides the sympathy vote to an electoral tie. With Dems holding the House and the GOP holding the Senate, a party-line vote elects Cuomo and Haley.
January 20, 2021: Cuomo is inaugurated.
May 11, 2023: Tomy Romo comes into contact with President Cuomo. He tells him that he knows a guy who is just perfect for him. Although Cuomo insists that he's straight, Romo pushes him to give it a try.
June 20, 2023: Romo's promo of homo Cuomo backfires in the latter's face, prompting him to resign effective next Monday, AD.
June 26, 2023: VP Haley takes the oath of office.
September 1, 2023: Governor Chaffetz is confirmed as Vice President, and swears in at noon the next day.
November 5, 2024: Haley gets Blanched by Senator Murphy.
August 25, 2027: Sozin's Comet passes, and the Fire Nation attacks Washington. Murphy, Castro, and the line of succession, save for HHS Secretary Ryan, are killed.
November 7, 2028: Despite the relative age of the Fire Nation attack, Ryan narrowly wins re-election against former VP Chaffetz.
November 2, 2032: Senator Sullivan defeats VP Tucker.
June 14, 2036: After a campaign stop in Phoenix, AZ, Sullivan passed out. After being taken to a hospital, he was pronounced dead. VP Kent had become President.
November 4, 2036: Kent wins re-election to a full term without much noise.
October 31, 2040: VP Wyson pleads guilty to being dfw, the 2020 Democratic assassin, and resigns.
November 6, 2040: With dfwgate not blowing over, Governor McConville becomes the first openly LGBT president by defeating President Kent.

Basically, American Presidents are term limited to one term, with the US annexing Canada either in the War of 1812 or later. The party system is basically the same as Canada's as well.
