The stupidity of Republicans never ceases to astound.

Yet they have both houses and the Presidency sooooo...
They lucked into both and are apparently set to throw both away with this vote. My point stands.

If Trump with his record high unfavorables could win then 2016 was gonna be a bloodbath for Dems no matter who the GOP nominated.

North Carolina is unlikely to opt out unless the legislature were to force an opt-out.

can they do it without cooper?`

and sorry for nagging about this, but since it disturbed me....is it possible to broaden the concept of reconciliaton enough to get this through the senate with 50 votes?

IIRC they have veto-proof majorities in both houses.

I thought Classic Conservative didn't like the bill? I could be mistaken.

A flip side to everyone cheering how do you feel about preserving 80% of ObamaCare? You know the exchanges, subsidies, and the mandate is all still there right? The expansion will be moved leftwards in the Senate as well.

You do know that for all the changes we're still to the left of 2009?

Not exactly. The subsidies have been replaced with refundable tax credits that are mostly based on age, not income. The employer mandate has been repealed. The individual mandate has been replaced:

The next Democratic White House is going to push for significant changes and the basic structure is there and remains there. THIS is a shift from the pre-2009 situation.

Note that subsidies, the exchanges, Medicaid expansion, and so on all will continue in some form and will be there in 2025. That's now a matter of settled and important precedent.

You'll note that the mandate that they imposed is similar to Obama's mandate in terms of forcing coverage. The Republicans have implicitly accepted the concept of a mandate.

Do you think this is the final iteration of healthcare reform? Hardly. These same Republicans will be back here screaming in 4-8 years as the Democrats get a second crack through reconciliation. (They have the upper hand as reconciliation expires after ten years)

CC and people like Krazen don't think beyond 5 years. They think of the now. The problem is that we face either doing healthcare through conservative market based ideas or the Democrats act more radically when they win back power.

they have, just didn't know if they need approval to kill an existing "contract" or something.

otherwise i would guess the partisan NC gop could follow through with this farce.

GOP lawmaker to constituents who will die without health care: They didn’t vote for me

Told you.  They know this is going to kill people.

But no, it's my post that's offensive.

Wow, a major step backwards for the sick people in the US. God bless them.

Thank goodness we don't have these kinds of problems here and are able to rely on a well-functioning healthcare system that not only runs annual surpluses, but also has 3 Bio. € in assets. 99.9% of the population is covered (the other 0.1% who are uninsured and out of the net for some reason or the other get free care), even with pre-existing conditions and it's affordable.

Anyway, looks like the Senate could kill it after all is said and done.

Terrible policy. Especially those Republicans who are not True Believers yet still voted for this should feel ashamed.

I have a suspicion most of the Sun Belt R's don't realize how blue their seats are getting. Issa, Royce, McSally, etc. may be writing off Trump's performance as a flash in the pan.

They'll all be thrown out if they vote for any sort of tax reform that eliminates the deduction for state taxes. Suburbanites might not care about healthcare for the poor, but they damn well care about their tax bill.

Please. If push came to shove, she would've voted for it. She knew she wouldn't be the deciding vote.

House republicans plan to get drunk and celebrate taking away people's health insurance. This will be rolled on DCCC ads thousands of times in 2018.

AMA says that despite changes, new bill would still cost millions coverage and strip protections for preexisting conditions:

GOP leaders were making this case 2 members: Dems will run ads purposely conflating bills, saying you voted for ACA repeal, so might as well
https://twitter.com/TimAlberta/status/860207392981741570

@dccc already up with digital ads in 30 districts, including against Coffman, Hurd, Joyce, Costello, Meehan & Comstock, who voted NO

So Portman, Heller, and Capito, and Collins have major issues with the bill in the Senate. That, combined with 48 Democratic votes, means major changes to the left in the Senate -- changes that I don't think the House will swallow easily.

Getting ready for retirement?

Good.  Have Collins or Murkowski said anything yet?
