Let's now put 10 20-something year-old judges on the Court who will be willing to not only overturn Roe v. Wade, but also say that all first-degree murder laws apply to the killing of babies nationwide.  Ending abortion is more important than our system of government itself.  I'm serious!

There is no option for that here. But I loved how he said that he was "serious".

He could well be serious.. but just having the name "ExtremeRepublican" can give clues that it is a parody account. Not accusing him of anything though.

I would hope so. People who think their agenda is so important that it justifies all-out lying, cheating, stealing - whatever, to get it implemented, are a disease in Congress and state legislatures. You can't behave like that and expect a functional government.

Such a sad spectacle. How do you even reason with a party that does s*** like this?

Reading the thread this morning was a big pleasure. I fully expected the Dems not to like a doze of their own medicine, but the meltdown and denial that ist the Dems fault is simply glorious.

Ten?  But there are only nine seats!

Sorry!  Your understanding of the Court is about as good as your understanding of chicken eggs.

Nothing says there has to be nine.  If we appoint ten more right now, those ten can be so conservative that they can overrule the other nine (Clarence Thomas would look like RBG next to these hypothetical ten).

You have totally f---ing lost it.

What happens when the Democrats counter by appointing 20 the next time they are in office and re-instituting Roe?

There is a reason you don't go to such lengths and that is because the power and authority is derive from the respect for the institution. If you destroy that, you destroy any expectation that any ruling one way or the other will be preserved beyond the next partisan majority.

What kind of victory is that, for the pro-life movement?

to be totally honest, the US is becoming kind of a democracy instead of a republic and one totally controlled by the ruling party, even while that one can still be switched or knee-capped every 2 years.

A "democracy" where the candidate/party with the second most votes controls everything.

You don't actually want this because the spate of theocratic and plutocratic rulings it would issue would cause backlash so severe that it would lead to a Democratic Supermajority in both Houses of Congress, and possibly to a new Constitutional Convention.

Altho to be fair, a constitutional convention would probably just engrave said theocratic and plutocratic rulings into a new constitution, given that Republicans are 1 state legislature short of being able to write a new constitution all by themselves, and Democrats don't seem to care about winning them back.

What a great day for the unborn!  Cheesy

Let's hope there will be another retirement/vacancy or two, so we can make more forward progress.

i am not mentally in this fight anyway, since so much was clear since the day trump won but.....since when does the american right buys into the "he talks nice so he must be moderate or acceptable"-talking point?

as far as i am informed, people who are talking with a soft voice or long, difficult words in republican primaries are usually insulted, ridiculed and RINOed.

gorsuch is ofc not any kind of moderate or even as centre-ish (on the other side) as garland but a really nice, decent guy, who seems to be honest.

i am not sure right now, if the new "standards" for abortion clinics, the national right-to-work law or the decision to make big parts of the great society unconstitutional are going to be more popular in the mid-west.
