Just because I despise Geert Wilders doesn't mean I have to like Mark Rutte, whose policies include economic austerity and, when Wilders began rising in the polls, mimicking his anti-immigrant rhetoric to a slightly less awful extent. I guess I'd compare Rutte to Theresa May. HP.

Pretty sad that the Dutch left's absolutely horrific performance has been presented as some kind of great victory for the forces of liberalism.

Sure, Wilders lost, but he was never, ever, in a million years going to be in government; and Holland is going to wind up with exactly the sort of neoliberal right wing government that is just going to make all the factors driving the rise of the populist right even worse.
