I know, we're going crazy with these topics ... but they're fun, and people like to share about their homes!  Post your favorite skylines or downtowns in your home area!  For me, it'd go:

ILLINOIS
Chicago (Hard to beat)

Peoria (Hometown!)

Champaign (University of Illinois)
Downtown:

Campustown:

IOWA
Iowa City
(Current hometown!)

Des Moines

This easy, though sometimes think the view coming out of the Fort Pitt Tunnels is even better.

Melbourne's northen CBD, rapidly (x probably a million) growing skyline

This is a model of what it'll look like when everything that is approved for construction is completed

A decent view of Minneapolis in the 1970s and again in 2015.
The taller building in the 70s photo is the IDS center (Investors Diversified Services...now Ameriprise Financial).  It was remarkable at its completion in 1972 for its all glass facade.

You can see that it has a staggered pattern at its corners.  In true Minnesota Nice fashion, the design was to maximize the number of corner offices for employees.

Ladies and Gentlemen of Atlas Nation, may I present the skyline of the greatest city in the world, New York.  Note the new World Trade Center, rising like a phoenix.  Cheesy

Here's another one I like....the fantastic skyline of Miami.  Road trip, anyone? Wink

Here's a couple more.  First up, the skyline of my city, Bridgeport CT.

As you can see, it's not too much to look at....but heh.  This next one is Hartford, the state capital of Connecticut.

As far as city skylines go, Hartford is pretty "meh" as well.  :: shrugs ::

A nice picture of the mini-skyline of Evanston (aka the Peoples Republic of Evanston) with Chicago in the background.

A great photo of the Minneapolis skyline from the south during late fall:

The Shining City on the Hill

However, the former mayor of Hudson suggests that beauty is only skin deep, and since Torie arrived in town, well things have basically gone to hell.  He actually posted this on his facebook page.  I may send him a lifeline and suggest he move to Grump’s reactionary exurb in the far reaches of Alleghany County, where everybody has a gun, and he might feel safer from a wave of citidiot Godless homos and worse. And since the dude loves to drink, they might be drinking buds (put the bong away however Grumps).

I know a lot of people on here will sympathize somewhat with the former mayor just because it's you they have an issue with...

But I totally sympathize with you here, Torie.  You might be a little too activist for the community which can put some people off... but people like Mr. Hallenbeck getting out will do a lot of good for the town.

My family experienced much hostility opening a resort in a place that was seeing the last throes of the "town fathers" in power.  By the late '90s they were gone and relegated to gushing stories about charity projects they did or overblown obituaries when one of them died in the local newspaper.

The result is one of relatively few bustling, growing small towns in America.

Oh, it really is not about me, but about "my type" in general. In fact, I go out of my way, to try to show respect to "old Hudson."  But they don't run the show anymore. The tipping point has been reached, and what the newbies want, they will tend to get now - for example a dog park, that turned into this rather ugly class warfare, homophobe issue (e.g., we don't want the fags mincing down the street walking their toy dogs in our hood to the dog park).

Congrats to your family's success. It must be gratifying to help a small town that way.

The skyline of my youth. I remember seeing the construction of the Big Blue Icicle which blew away  the old landmark Foshay tower. The IDS became the central nexus for the new skyway system which revolutionized movement downtown, especially in winter.

Considering how dire the skylines in Spokompton and Portlandia are, how can any from the NW post anything else?

Vancouver BC's also kinda sucks. There, I said it

Birmingham, AL (seen from Vulcan Park looking north over UAB/Southside/Five Points towards Downtown)

Atlanta, GA (looking south-southeast from Atlantic Station, Midtown in the foreground/Downtown in the  background)

EDIT:  Actually, that ATL pic is not from Atlantic Station.  Its somewhere on the other side of the Interstate but I'm not exactly sure where.

I've been going to Atlanta pretty consistently for the past 18 or so years.  One of the coolest things has been watching what was three distinct skylines (Downtown, Midtown, Buckhead) grow and converge into one.
