Note that this only includes cities and towns within a few hours of the coast, where a day's trip to the beach would be reasonable (for example, Seattle counts as Pacific Coast and Washington DC as Atlantic Coast). The Pacific Coast also includes southern Alaska and Hawaii.

No doubt the Pacific is beautiful, but I prefer the Great Lakes. They're the poor man's coast.

I will not argue for the entirety of the Great Lakes Coast, as plenty of it is rubbish, but the western Michigan coast is beautiful, and obviously my favorite.

tough to say really....there is beauty and ugliness in large quantities on all 4 "coasts".  The Gulf coast has the best and somehow the worst beaches.  Sometimes not that far apart.  It's weird actually.

I voted Homer and went Great Lakes....even though I've actually lived on the Gulf Coast for a few years and have never lived anywhere near any of the Great Lakes, I'm a midwest boy at heart.

If that's toast, then the Pacific's a lava cake, and the Atlantic's freaking creme brulee.

Living on Lake Michigan would be a dream come true. As for my professed love for the Pacific North-West, that has much more to do with the mountains, though the surf was (literally) breath-taking. New England would be fantastic as well, maybe somewhere on the coast of Maine, or in Aroostook. I can't find utility in the Gulf Coast. Voted Third.

Southern Florida wins, then the Fresh Coast (lake Michigan), then West, then East.

The one that isn't freezing in the winter or unbearably humid in the summer.

And yet, most people prefer toast as an everyday food.

I voted Great Lakes.  For a few weeks in late September and early October, the north shore of Lake Superior is one of the most beautiful places on earth.  Usually gorgeous weather and the vast sugar maple forests turn various hues of red and orange.

Just went skiing Saturday, and on the lift you had the view of the Mississippi River.  Sitting in Illinois, looking at Iowa.  Makes you realize there are absolutely beautiful views in every state!

If you can find something like this on a coast besides the Pacific in this country, let me know.
