According to Sean Spicer, Trump had six finalists and interviewed four. Those four were Gorsuch, Hardiman, Pryor, and Amul Thapar.

I really don't envision a post-election write-up that says something like: "Claire McCaskill came close to winning, but her No vote on Gorsuch did her in"

Lean D nos are Leahy, Blumenthal, Baldwin, Reed, Booker, and Duckworth.

From what I have read, Gorsuch doesn't seem to be the worst of the possible Supreme Court picks.

Not as bad a Pryor... but Hardiman would've been the more moderate pick.

Gorsuch will face tough questions about:
1) Ruling for Hobby Lobby (Employers not having to provide insurance under ACA, that covers Contraceptive like birth control pills)

2) Giving money to politicians while running campaigns is a "fundamental right" (he definitely is not overturning Citizens United)

3) Opinion and writing indicated is would likely vote to overturn Roe v. Wade

4) Gorsuch wrote "American liberals have become addicted to the courtroom, relying on judges and lawyers rather than elected leaders and the ballot box."

5) Gorsuch wrote that, "American liberals are circumventing the democratic process on issues like gay marriage, school vouchers, and assisted suicide"

the best shot for liberals regarding SCOTUS during the next decades would be if more conservative judges share robert's hate of bench-decisions forced on them by legislature/executive.

Warning sign for Dems looking to block this:

Manu Raju ‏@mkraju  6m6 minutes ago
Sen. Mark Warner, a rare D offering praise for Gorsuch, saying he has an "impressive resume and academic background."

The Virginia Senators are the worst Hillary state Democratic Senators. Carper and Feinstein are pretty bad. Also, I wouldn't trust King. And that's without getting into the 11 Trump state Democrats.

Kaine is pretty decent - Warner is a piece of shi* though!

Dems shouldn't stick to extremists outside the democratic consensus like you who is celebrating violence against people with different opinions. Unless they never want to regain majority status.

He's also written a god-awful opinion on police brutality lawsuits (among other things).

Would he support democratic decisions on those things that he doesn't like?

There is little doubt he's going to be confirmed.  A good choice.

Democrats would be best advised to allow the appointment. If they delay excessively then the Reps will nuke the filibuster and Trump's next nominee will be much further right.

Are you just saying who ever is in the minority party should just have no voice?

That's the Republican way, pardner.

The Republican way is whoever is minority should just have no voice.

Does anyone think the Dems would not can the filibuster for SCOTUS nominees in a millisecond, if the shoe were on the other foot? Just asking.  Personally, I think the filibuster is an unmitigated evil. It tends to destroy accountability in government. Let the party in power do its thing, take responsibility for it, and be judged accordingly in the next election. What a novel concept! Who knew?

I like Gorsuch; I prefer conservative constructionists on the Court who will limit Roe and be generally pro-business. But I don't like the Muslim ban EO and I don't like how the Garland process played out. So I'd vote yes to filibuster but I'd also vote yes on final confirmation.

Of course, I doubt he's a radical left-winger who is destroying federal and other peoples property because he can't accept election results.

He only said that the Left/Liberals use the Court for political reasons and for political gains. Given the fact that they e.g. always lost at the ballot box on gay marriage and never accepted the will of the people, went to Court to reverse their loss clearly speaks for his thesis.

Btw, it isn't different in Europe...

The Republican way is whoever is minority should just have no voice.

I think you meant, "white, comparatively wealthy, male, and right-wing politically and religiously should have no voice". Majority or minority doesn't enter into it.
