A random thing I was thinking about is "What if presidential candidates ran under third parties?" My mind immediatly jumped to Al Gore being a Green Party candidate, mostly because of his focus on global warming.

So, here's my scenerio:
Al Gore changes his party afffiliation somewhere in between 1996 and 1998, strengthening the Green Party immensly. 2000 rolls along and he considered a major candidate that can possibly defeat George W. Bush and whoever is the new Democratic nominee, or at least make an impact for other 3rd parties to come. like in '92, Bush, Gore, and Candidate #3 all debate on the same stage, with Gore having various results. So my question is, how would he do?

(Please don't say it would just be political suicide, just play along.)

Only thing I could see happening is Gore moves slightly to the Left and creates a Democratic/Green fusion ticket, picking a more left wing VP. Switching to the Green Party would be insanity and it's unlikely he'd even win their primary. Keep in mind, Gore was socially conservative for years and somewhat interventionist to boot.

This is the party that thinks Bernie Sanders is a corporate shill, will they really nominate a Vice President?

See, I'm not sure. I think they would because of his environmental policies and some other stances. Also, It would benefit the party greatly if they did.

This is a party too left wing for Roseanne Barr and post-1980s Sanders. Kucinich is about the most right wing person they would nominate.
