1. Chicago
2. New York
3. Philadelphia
4. Houston
5. Los Angeles

If we're talking metro areas, NY would be #1 and LA would be #3.

Chicago so I could be close to my girlfriend.

If that wasn't an issue, Philadelphia.

I think we're talking about cities proper, since those are the five largest cities proper, not metro areas.

Philly, with The Windy City in a close second.

Definitely not LA

While I hope to never have to move to any of those, Houston followed by LA.  Houston has weather I'm reasonably familiar with and LA isn't that bad.

Why is there so much L.A. hatred in this thread? Do you not like perfect weather and attractive people?

None of them are places I'm looking to live in for an extended period of time. Due to weather (it's not actually always sunny in Philadelphia, is it?), I'd probably have to choose between LA and Houston. Not sure which of the two is less sprawly, impersonal and car-centric. I guess I'll go with the devil I know.

Horrifyingly enough, the answer is actually Los Angeles. Houston is a dystopian nightmare tbh.

1. NYC
2. Philadelphia
3. Chicago
4. Los Angeles

5. Houston

First three are actually walkable, and I have a lot of fondess for both. Chicago was nice when I visited, but the weather's awful and I have no sentimentality for it. I have a love/hate relationship with LA, and I don't think it's anywhere as bad as it detractors say it is and I have a lot of hope for it compared to other US cities, but I can't really ignore that it's the biggest waste of a natural environment in the country. Never been to Houston, but Southern weather and sprawl suck.

I don't like winter any longer and Houston is wayyyyyyyyy too hot in the summer, so, (GAG) I'll choose LA.

I have been kind of surprised by all of the animosity directed towards LA in this thread.
