So say Trump isn't toxic come 2020 but more 49-51% approval rating with him being polarizing around partisan lines what would be the best democratic ticket to beat that?

Maybe someone who has run before, so they have experience. Someone without too much baggage, who can excite the base. Someone who doesn't make too many gaffes. Maybe someone who polls like +15 on favorability. I would say Bernie Sanders but...

John Bel Edwards would be the strongest candidate, but Sherrod Brown and Steve Bullock would also be fairly strong.

Kamal Harris is a god awful candidate, pro-free trade, identity politics, and the epitome of the coastal liberal elite.

Bullock/Bel Edwards for the win!

This always happens whenever Harris comes up and I never know what to think of her because the people who say she's "identity politics" never explain why beyond just the statistics of who she is and the people who say she isn't "identity politics" treat the accusation that she is as self-evidently racist and sexist and thus never feel the need to enumerate any major accomplishments or explain why she's been so electorally successful.

I think part of it is because she's a freshman Senator known more for getting elected than anything else, and winning as a Democrat in California is not exactly a spectacular achievement, especially when the entire party establishment was behind her vs. Sanchez. At least Obama had a very notable DNC speech in 2004 that got people talking.

That being said, the JBE fetishization isn't any better.

Honestly it seems that liberal like her because she is similar to Obama and a former AG who can tackle the whole unarmed black people shooting by cops situation without making it look like she is "anti-cop". While this whole "identity politics" is just code for "she's a minority so bad the only way Trump can lose is a folksy white guy is his opponent"

Sherrod Brown (or Tim Ryan) with many possibilities:

* Kamala Harris
* Tulsi Gabbard
* Elizabeth Warren
* Amy Klobuchar
* Chris Murphy
* Julian Castro
* Jason Kander

It's code for she stands for San Francisco politics, the most degenerate of all America, which I will never in my life get behind for anything.

I'd like to see JBE/Gabbard personally. But I think that Rep. Val Demings could go somewhere.

Sherrod Brown or Time Ryan with Duckworth as VP. Duckworth is a hell of a candidate and a war hero.

Al Gore and Susan Collins.

I think Collins could be talked into switching parties.

Duckworth/Brown parties in a slump usually go for the war heroes (McCain/Kerry).

This, and most emphatically not flipped tyvm. Harris would be way to SJWy against an above water Trump. She cannot and will not win back the rural midwest.

*I do think Charisma is as important as experience (& the overall most likable candidate almost always wins.. regardless of experience)

*Also- I do think having a non-white on the ticket is important- in general & to motivate turnout.  Half of the Dem party are non-white.....and non-white voters are the most loyal Dem voters... but have the lowest turnout (And anyone who says having a latino or black candidate on the ticket will not motivate & increase turnout with the respective voters... is simply not living in reality).

Overall some good suggestions...  with a few exceptions (Tulsi Gabbard & Elizabeth Warren will never work.  Tulsi completely lacks the charisma needed... & Warren completely turns off most of the same rural voters that are turned off by Hillary)

Sherrod Brown & Steve Bullock look like strong choices for the top of the ticket. But I know more about Sherrod Brown.. so I will go with him in my pairings.

Sherrod Brown/ Cory Booker (you could switch this pairing also)
Sherrod Brown/ Joaquin Castro (move him to top VP choice if he were to beat Ted Cruz in '18)
Sherrod Brown/ Chris Van Hollen
Sherrod Brown/ Kamala Harris (depends on what she does/ her exposure/etc.. the next 4 years)

or
Cory Booker/ Martin Heinrich

or
Joaquin Castro/ Sherrod Brown

or
****Wildcard ticket (Julian Castro w/ General Mark S. Martins)
