Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

The most asinine and wrongheaded thing I've ever said on Atlas was probably several years ago when I attacked another poster's argument--which I saw as relying on the chimerical idea that some word or concept, I forget exactly what, always meant the exact same thing--as being excessively 'Wittgensteinian'. I was told in no uncertain terms that Wittgenstein would have argued no such thing, and I was sufficiently humiliated that I took some time to read up on his thought and would like to think I understand him a lot better now.

There were also some theological or Biblical-hermeneutical claims that I used to make that were definite reaches, but I generally used those to antagonize jmfcst or NYJew, which I still maintain was a good cause.

The stupidest political prediction I think I've made on Atlas was that Tanigaki Sadakazu would beat Abe's leadership challenge and be elected Prime Minister of Japan in 2012.

On Trump chances in 2016 (back in '13)

He wouldn't have a chance in such a crowed field. If he was ever going to run it would of been in 2012

Well, I have said a host of stupid things, but at my age, memory is not what it used to be. So I will refer to my comment, that it was 90% certain that Clinton would win the election.

Of course, offsetting all my nonsense, is this tour de force manifestation of inspired perspicacious genius, but I digress. Tongue

Argued Stalin wasn't genocidal, but merely a mass murdered, based on technicality (definition).

While Uncle Joe never aimed at extermination certain nation/race, his policy had genocidal traits.

I too was a Rand Paul 'muh US imperialism' fan for about 5 months in 2014. Glad I grew out of that stage

As much as I would like to forget it ever happened, I suppose I'll never live down that thread.

You know which one.

I have 37,590 posts.........now 37,591....but clearly in the past couple of years, my insistence.....down right insistence that Hillary would not run was, in hindsight, stupid.

(There have probably been a few drunk posts in the last 37,591 posts that were worse. Tongue )

Probably when I got into an argument with Classic when I thought Johnson was going to make the debate.

On US withdrawal from Afghanistan:

Smiley. We can have more months like this if we pull out immediately.

Yes, there would be more months like this if we pull out.  But then, in the period at the end of those months, there would be more bloodshed.

Whereas if we *don't* pull out immediately, there would be more human life on this Earth.  Exactly when that would begin is something best left up to philosophers, but I think it should be clear to all within about 9 months (which incidentally is roughly when the last international troops are scheduled to leave Afghanistan under current arrangements), give or take.

The joke itself wasn't stupid.  But I was stupid for thinking that you guys would get it.  No one commented on how awesome my joke was in that thread, to my eternal shame.  Sad

It was dumb of me to assume that PA wouldn't be a toss-up in 2016, though I only said that in early 2015.

Believe me, for everyone's sake, it's better that I leave it at this:

Never, EVER post your teenage feelings on Atlas and expect it to go well.

It was stupid of me to put Michigan at Safe D, and also stupid to distrust my early gut feeling that PA would be close and would decide the election.

My very first post is pretty great.

Re: top five choices for president:

Of people actually running:

1. Hillary Clinton
2. Bernie Sanders
3. Jim Webb
4. Martin O'Malley
5. Jim Gilmore

Of all eligible citizens:

1. Hillary Clinton
2. Gary Locke
3. Boris Johnson (technically, he was born in New York)
4. Bill Gates
5. Colin Powell

In my defense, the BoJo vote was before he stated his support for Brexit and became a general nuisance.
