Iowa - It went to Ford in 1976 yet I believe it was Dukakis 2nd best state

The farming crisis. Dukakis did well in much of the rural Midwest, much better than a Massachusetts liberal should normally have. He actually did better in rural America than suburban America - something I think no D has ever since attained.
