Bruce Rauner only became so unpopular after Mike Madigan lost his veto-proof majority in the 2016 elections.

yeah, the notion that Madigan is this all-powerful god of Illinois politics is just kinda ludicrous -- there are a lot of people (Pritzker among them) who have mutually beneficial alliances of convenience with MM, but there are very few outside the State House who actually take orders from him.
Is that why non MM approved candidates tend to get kicked from primary ballots with little explanation (it's how Obama first got elected in 1996)

Correlation doesn't equal causation. Rauner became so unpopular after he ruined budget negotiations with crazy demands and had to be overridden by a bi-partisan coalition in the state legislature (bi-partisan in both House and Senate.) If he had behaved like a rational and responsible adult during those negotiations he would probably have retained his mediocre-but-not-terrible ratings from before that.

More precisely, Rauner is a multimillionaire. He is not yet a billionaire, although his investments in kiddie prisons R us could change that.

Oh how odd politics can be.

If the collar counties touching Cook County (Lake, Kane, McHenry, DuPage and Will) formed their own state prior to the 2014 gubernatorial election Pat Quinn would have defeated Rauner by a margin of 52,675 votes.

Reminders of two important facts.

1) Suburbanites can really screw Democrats if we do not bow to to them.
2) How elastic the  Midwest is.

Now JB Prizker may sweep all the collar counties except McHenry.

For a while I was saying I expect a Democratic win of 5-10 points. No longer the case. I now expect a Democratic win of 20-25 points.

At this rate, by October we'll be arguing about whether he'll receive more than 25 votes.

I read the full article with this quote in it and I still find myself questioning reality.

What the hell is going on in Illinois?

Does Obama even need to cut an ad for Pritzker to win by a huge margin?

No, but I have to imagine Obama's endorsement is quite powerful in the state, and a larger margin for Pritzker = stronger coattails all around.

Over $120 million invested so far on JB's side. Amazing (and not in a good way).

"Hope and change" sounded a lot better than "shill for corrupt billionaires".

Yes. Pritzy is one of the most overrated candidates of the cycle. People on this site assume he's going to win by 20 just because muh Rauner and ignore huge numbers of undecideds who don't have a clear reason to break unanimously for Pritzker.

JB is a job creater. It's in the election industry, but still a job creater!

I think JB's victory margin will be similar to how many years he's gonna spend in federal prison for crimes committed during his governorship. +15 sounds about right

don't see why people think jb will commit heinous crimes during his time as governor — he is already wealthy beyond the scope of human imagination

Yeah, he'll probably spend 15+ years in prison for crimes from BEFORE he was governor.

Heard an ad today in which a PAC supporting IL Republicans attacks the "Madigan and Rauner" agenda.

So, I guess that is how far gone this race is for Bruce.
