The last successful Democrat to win New York's 11th congressional district was Michael McMahon, who is now the Staten Island District Attorney (Prosecutor). Since he lost to renegade Michael Grimm in 2010, the seat has been occupied by a Republican. The Staten Island and Brooklyn Democratic Party have fielded bad candidates (Mike Murphy in 2012, Dominic Recchia in 2014, Vincent Gentile in 2015, Richard Reichard in 2016.) What is wrong with the Staten Island and Brooklyn Democratic Parties that they recruit poor candidates for office, with Donovan's poor record (he was the prosecutor in the Garner case).

States Island is full on Trump voters. McMahon was a fluke. No one wants to risk their political future on a doomed race against a popular incumbent. Donavan'a record as DA would hurt him in say, Manhattan or Brooklyn, but it's a PLUS in Staten Island.

The best Dem recruit would probably be Diane Savino, who is awful.

Assemblyman Michael Cusick would be good too.

Domenic Recchia was bad/hilarious enough to earn the scorn of Jon Stewart
