It has finally happened: Minnesota broke its streak and voted to the right of the country for the first time since 1952. It is interesting that many people still consider it a solidly Democratic state when it was actually quite close.

I wonder how much of this had to do with the Somalis. Basically, the federal government and Lutheran charities have been working to force tens of thousands of them on Minnesota and the Dakotas. Minnesota's large Somali community is typically in the news for crime and people arrested trying to join ISIS. There were also lots of Somalis placed in Maine (with support from the Catholic church instead of Lutherans), which swung hard to the right this time, as well.

Shocked I missed this. Really the end of an era.

The new longest streak is shared by Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York, which have voted to the left of the country since 1960. I don't see any of those changing any time soon.
