With Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them out, this seemed like the perfect time.

The popular opinion is Cuaron, then Yates, then Columbus, then Newell.

I'd say many of the yates films, like 5+6, can be pretty soulless to me as a huge fan of the books.  That said, I LOVE 7 pt. 2, some of the performances/scenes are incredible.

3 is great, and in large part due to Cuaron's creativity.

4 is one of my favorite films and books, but probably due to the story reflecting everything I love most about the series, not really because newell's direction was particularly good.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

Cuarón is the best as a director, Columbus was the best at adapting Harry Potter. Voted Cuarón.

Yates didn't have super cheesy sequences in his films, so him.

Um, pretty sure the Harry/Hermione dance and pretty much the entire Half-Blood Prince disagree with that.

Anyway, my answer is Yates.

Cuaron might be best overall, but his style was out of place for the universe and waaay too sententious. He managed to make a light-hearted romp and big grimdark, emo sort of thing.

Newell turned one of the best books into a soap opera.

And Columbus was a little too strict on the letter of the law, but not enough on the spirit. If Philosopher's Stone was his only, I'd consider him my favorite by a hair...do have to give him credit for getting such performances out all the children...much harder job than what the others had.

I haven't seen any of the Harry Potter films, but voted for Cuaron because Y Tu Mama Tambien was such an awesome movie.

Order of the Phoenix is probably my favourite movie, while Prisoner of Azkaban is my least favourite. I vote accordingly.
